January 22nd ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress: Obviously it was a NO spend day yesterday.  I didn’t throw up any more, but I sure felt like it all day.  The only thing I ate was crackers and ginger ale.  My stomach felt queasy all day long and I was so tired. Ro took the girls for a swim lesson in the morning.  I usually take them so it was really nice for him to see how well they are swimming now.

Luckily I had Cinderella on the DVR, so I was able to give Ro a break and have my girlies watch it with me.  I tried to keep my distance, but I’m sure it’s already too late.  Hopefully they won’t get it… Ro was pretty helpful.  He made all meals even though he tried to talk me into giving him the credit card to take everyone out for dinner so he didn’t have to make it.  I guess he thought I was too weak to object (he should know me better by now ~ ha ha!).  Luckily I had a meal in the freezer that he could heat up quickly.  It worked out okay.

Still feeling yucky this morning, although maybe slightly less yucky.  I have a few drugstore deals I want to do, but we’ll see … I only need 23 more “kicks” on Shopkick to earn my first $10 Target gift card.  I can earn 25 by scanning a product at the CVS across the street, so I know I’ll at least be doing that !  I did manage to print out a $20 CVS voucher that was in one of my daily deal sites that I forgot about.  I was pretty psyched when I checked the balance and it was still $20= Woo Hoo. I plan to take it with me when I do my CVS run.  I’m going to see how far I can stretch it.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2013 your year. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…

I hope you feel better, Karen! I know being a mom we can not afford to get sick! I spent some money shopping at The Children’s Place sale (bought clothes with my coupon for 80% off the original price). Got clothes for the kids for next year so they should be pretty well set up!

  2. toni says:

Glad you’re feeling a little better. Seems like that is going round. No spend day, all meals made at home. Made a few swagbucks, also won a $10. coupon to Pizza Hut. Will do some grocery shopping today, hoping to score some deals.

Karen, SO glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today. I would like to say that yesterday was a no spend day for me. But I guess I technically can’t say that. My son (6 years old-Kindergarten) loves me to read him these chapter mystery books (A to Z mysteries by Ron Roy) and asked me if he could use his allowance money he had saved to buy more. They were 3.99 on Amazon, but if you bought 3, you got a 4th one free. He only had 10 dollars saved, so I pitched in 2 more so he could get a 3rd book, which meant he could then get a 4th book for free. So I spent under 2 dollars out of my pocket yesterday…not bad! And I love snuggling up with my kiddos in blankets with books during this snowy cold patch of winter! :P

Glad to hear you’re on the mend, Karen. No spend day here, but I need to do a little grocery shopping today and hope to get to wags for the granola bars. Running again for weight loss and stress.

Glad you are feeling a little better. I am telling you, there is some horrible stuff going around out there. I am going to bootcamp this morning after missing last weeks workouts and then will probably take my littlest to our jumpyard for discount day….there is a slight discount on the cost. After that it is tackling housework that got neglected when I was sick last week. Yesterday we only spent $18 at Walmart for some personal items and then $36 when we went out to lunch, ouch, but I was happy to get out of the house.

Karen, so happy you are feeling better.
The kids were off school and it was too cold again( 6 degrees) to go outside, so they played on their electronics and grazed all day, hubby included..I was hoping for a no spend day….nope
I had to run to the grocery again, just to grab a few items but they had gf items on the clearance rack.

Snagged some free samples online, printed coupons, earned swags and made a pile of clothes to sell, exercised, hubby put a $30 item on ebay for me, and made all meals at home.
Packed up some items for our move this summer.

  7. Jennifer says:

Went to the grocery store to get just the four things I needed, and I am so proud I only got the 4!!!! Exchanged a baby gift for a bigger size and of course the price had gone up so I paid the difference. My son had a friend over last night and they want to go skating today so they will pay. Going to mail off a few more things I sold on ebay then home to a warm house. It’s in the lower 30′s here today and that’s cold for eastern NC. I do hate to see my power bill after this cold snap. BTW, I sold an item on ebay and the person has yet to pay me, what should I do???? Anyone ever had this happen????

    • Maria says:

That has happened to me before. I would just send them a friendly email reminding them that they won/purchased the item and you would appreciate payment. If they don’t pay, you can email Ebay for help or relist the item, good luck.

I have a very sick hubby that begged for chicken/rice soup from the Chinese restaurant and since I worked all day and then had to drive 40 minutes to pick up my kids (since there was no school) so I caved and we got Chinese. I just didn’t feel like cooking at 8 at night but on a plus note it did only cost me $10.75 for a family of 4. Not too bad. Other than that it was a low key kind of day.

  9. Lindsey says:

    No spend day.

  10. Michelle says:

Went to the Stock Show and right before leaving remembered to check for coupons and found a free child with adult purchase to save a few $

  11. Yvoaynne says:

Other than gas, it was a no spend day. Got to the station just before the price went up by $0.25/gallon. Happy that a coworker is returning to work and I can have a much needed couple of days off. Prayed for the finances of ML2S readers.

  12. nicole says:

Glad you are feeling a little better! Yesterday was a no spend day for us! We stayed in since it was cold and my son and husband were home. We had a “camp in” with the boys, roasted hot dogs and made S’mores over the fire, snuggled and played games!

  13. Brittany says:

Yesterday wasn’t too bad, other than spending an arm and leg on baby meds at Walgreens. Plus side is that I now have a $5 reward, but holy cow! baby meds are spendy. Happy to hear you’re feeling better. Found out that the Naval Hospital doesn’t stock the surgical shoe in the pharmacy and since it’s something that would be custom fit to my foot, it’d be expensive to order and could take a little while to get in. Shopping for a pair of Dansko’s are on my list (hubs loves that I’ll actually get a good expensive pair of shoes instead of my cheapie Payless ones that fall apart.) Sadly with sick baby, I miss out on my $20 watching the extra little boy today, but that’s okay. Spent the morning at work yesterday so made $$ there.

  14. Emily says:

Yesterday was a no spend here too. Hubby worked late so C and I hung out and I made dinner late since he’s not been eating much lately. I can’t wait till these 2 yr molars finally come through. I wasn’t able to go to the gym yesterday due to DH not getting home till late but I did do my Jillian Michaels dvd I got a while ago. It seriously kicks my butt but I did a little more of it today than yesterday so I hope by the end of the week I’ll be able to make it all the way through the first level. I took a day off from the computer yesterday so I didn’t get any surveys done. I’m going to make up for it tonight when Dh gets home and I get back from the gym. I’m going to swing by rite aid after the gym since its across the street and get a few deals done. We have tickets to the Flyers game on thurs so we will likely be eating out that day so meals will be made at home until then.

  15. Jen says:

No spend day today & yesterday the only $ spent was for lunch with the new people who started at work but my company will reimburse me as I paid for everyone in our group of 5. I received my $25 gift card for target from mypoints so added that to our grocery envelope. I love that those help me stretch our grocery $. I’m still trying to think of things to sell on ebay to make $ for our tax bill that’s coming in April. Earned my swagbucks & cashed in my rewards from endorse app so that should be posting to the bank account along with the $ from selling the books last week from half.com.
We are officially at the mandatory overtime from now until end of tax season so that will be extra 15-20 hours/week and will be paid out mid-May which will be used towards our adoption fund.

  16. Shelley C. says:

Glad you’re feeling a bit better hopefully by tomorrow you’re better yet. Yesterday I took a walk with one of the boys, we collected 3 bags of cans. Crazy! I went for a motorcycle ride with hubby–it has been super nice out during the day. I thought it would be something cheap to do–well, we stopped at a yogurt shop. The kind where you put all your flavors & toppings in the cup & they weigh it. Over $14 for 2. I almost fell over!! It was a nice treat.
For dinner we had pork tenderloin, rice & salad. My daughter cooked while we were out. Wow, 2 surprises in one day. lol
