One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well ![]()
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Yesterday wasn’t too exciting, but sometimes those are the best days. I did go to the grocery store to snag a few deals that I had awesome coupons for. I got 2 packs of Perdue chicken nuggets for $1.75 because they were having a BOGO sale and I had 2 $.75 coupons (one doubled). I also got 2 containers of grapefruit juice for $.50 each and a few other items. My total was $10. I am trying to build up the stockpile for pennies on the dollar.
I printed off some reward certificates that were in my inbox. Best Buy sent me a $5 reward from the free codes lately. Discover also sent me something that I will get a $5 statement credit if I spend $5 at Best Buy before 1/31. I guess I can use both and get something worth $10 for free after both rewards. I also had a $16 reward from Office Max in my account. I am rounding all of these rewards up for a freebie shopping spree. I love going around town collecting my FREEbies.
All meals were made at home. I made Ro a huge crockpot of chili because it’s so cold here and he loves it ! I took the girls over to my sister’s house for dinner. We always have a nice time chatting and letting the kids play. I brought chocolate pudding. I got a few nice samples in the mail including an 8 load Method detergent sample and a shampoo sample. I earned 22 Swagbucks yesterday, but I was kind of tired so I went to bed without doing any surveys.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it
You could make 2013 your year. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…

Picked my son up from practice after work. He was starving and I was so tempted to get a quick dinner out but went home and made quesadillas instead. Added coke points. No spend day.
I went to Target to get my son’s boots and snow pants for next year that were 70% off. That was the only money spent yesterday. I did some freezer cooking and completed one survey. I also received in my inbox the $5 Amazon credit from Viewpoints. Thanks, Yvonne and Karen for bringing that to everyone’s attention!
I am still so motivated that this is our year and I think it is in part to this blog. I think it is so nice to see how encouraging everyone can be and how motivated we all are! It keeps me motivated! I continue to pray that we all have a great year where some of our financial burdens are lifted away!
I totally agree with you, Amy. I’m still fired up for 2013. It just feels different. I believe that there are good things to come for many of us. I plan to keep praying every day!
No spend day here yesterday. Qualified for a couple more survey and completed those. Today is gonna be another COLD day around here. Glad it’s Friday. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Only money spent was for my coffee. It was a must. The baby was fussy so I needed to ride him around before I picked up my oldest from school. Sold some more things on eBay and Amazon. Mailing those out today so money there but it’s already in my PayPal account. I like to get my PayPal account built up before I have it transferred. My oldest gets out of school early because of possible snow. I’m not a big fan of snow but he is so I hope we get enough make a snowman. It’s Friday girls so smile!!!!!
.
yesterday we spent just under $10 so that was good. Today I need to go the store, but I might put it off because it is not for essentials and I will have both kids with me so then I may end up buying more. They are out of school again today, for zero reason. Sometimes I wonder about the decisions.
Yesterday was a no spend day for me…woo hoo. I did receive my 2 huge bottles of Pantene in the mail from Amazon (they were only $4.27 for both bottles). I got a nice free sample of cat food that I gave to a co-worker for his 2 cats. I have some meat and whole chickens that I am going to cook up tonight so we can make some chicken noodle soup, pot pies, taco soup and chili. That will be some nice hot meals for this cold weather we are having. We have started with some ice and freezing rain here this morning so today will be a no spend day too. Prayers out to everyone!!
Trying to price some sports cards for hubby. Someone is coming tonight to purchase some he saw on Mon. and hopefully he’ll buy these too( an extra $200!!) Did the cvs card deal for 3 free cards. Hubby will go today and do his. He’ll also do the Irish spring deal.Did 2 surveys, earned on 11 swags, only fliers in the mail. All meals made at home. Have chicken soup cooking for dinner tonight. Expecting snow this afternoon and it’s still in the teens. Hope everyone has a warm and safe weekend.
No spend day here. Making Blueberry muffins for the freezer. Doing the menu for the next week along with the grocery list. Also doing a freezer cooking day planning for next week. This will give me at least 10 meals in the freezer to pull when needed. It is cold here and we are expected to get sleet this evening and then it will be in the 70′s next week. Crazy weather. Sold one thing on craigslist, sold $37 at consignment shop, all that went into emergency fund. I have several other things to list on Craigslist and clothes on Ebay. Everyone stay warm. Karen that van looks beautiful paid off.
Chicken soup must be on everyone’s mind during these cold days! We had it, and managed to used up some frozen shredded zucchini from the August garden harvest. It blends in so well and adds bulk and nutrients and the husband doesn’t really notice.
Attempted to shop around for the new stove, but I knew from the beginning it’d be at Lowe’s…we don’t have many options around here, especially not ones that don’t charge a ridiculous delivery fee for the distance. However, I didn’t purchase yesterday, just so I had time to think on it and talk it over with husband. Came home and put my daughter’s diapers out on the driveway on a blanket to dry as much as possible with the sun. Didn’t spend anything yesterday, which was nice. My new purse and wallet arrived, and I’m bummed to say I don’t like them. Luckily I have a Coach Outlet about 30 mins away, so a friend and I are heading over there on Sunday. I did sell some extra diaper inserts, so that’s nice. Won the latest free-for-shipping/pay-it-forward item on a diaper group, so got to offer something awesome to other mama’s!
Had to spend $16 for medication co-pay, but given that without insurance the meds would have cost me close to $800, I have no complaints. I was given a $10 card to Starbucks as a gift so stopped by and got some scones to take home for today’s breakfast. I have never been to a Starbucks before, so this was a little adventure. I stopped drinking coffee years ago, and like only decaf tea, so never bothered to got to one. Nice to get a free breakfast out of the card.
Yesterday we went to the Flyers game and that was a lot of fun. I tried to talk hubby into at least getting something before the game and I stopped at Subway for 2/1 12 in subs to share among the 3 of us and he ended up spending money at the game anyway. At least it was his do whatever you want with it money. Its snowing here but I still am going out to get a few things at a couple stores then going to the gym because I haven’t been able to go all week. DH is taking C and going to the car show tomorrow so I will have the whole day to myself and I’m not sure what to do with it.
I can’t wait for the weather to warm up because our house has an electric heat pump which is useless in this kind of weather. Its working so hard and barely able to get warm. We are running space heaters everywhere we can.
Still not feeling good. Did get started on an antibiotic so hopefully that will kick in soon. Received my $5 Amazon gift card from Viewpoints. Easy money! Prayed for the finances of all the ML2S readers. This is our year!!!
