One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well ![]()
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I didn’t feel very well yesterday. Isn’t it horrible when you feel a little under the weather and you have SO much to do. The girl’s 6th party was last night and all of the family came over, so you know I had SO much to do ! I just felt wiped out + I was sneezing with a scratchy throat. The problem was that it wasn’t too bad, but just enough to make it difficult to get everything done. Oh well, it did all get done and the girls had a great birthday party, so it’s all good I guess. I made a big crockpot of chili. I realized a little late that I didn’t have any ground beef cooked up, so I ended up throwing in some leftover sloppy joe meat from the other night. It was a great way to use up leftovers and I didn’t have to spend any extra money. The girls got some very thoughtful presents and had fun with their family. It was a great night.
I spent $11.21 on lunch for all of us after using a Restaurant.com certificate. I just felt the need to get out of the house a little. I recorded Suze Orman, so I watched it after everyone left while I organized my deals for the week for you and me. I took pictures and organized a few listings on Ebay. I plan to start the listings later today. I also listed some books on Amazon. I got a few coupons for free products in the mail AND I got a nice size box of skin care products from House Party. Have any of you done House Party parties ? It’s great. They send you a product/products to share with friends for free. They want to get the word out about products and you get free stuff = win/win !
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it
You could make 2013 your year. Who will the February winner be ? We’ll see…

Glad to hear the party was a success. Sorry you weren’t feeling well. Hope you are MUCH better today! Yesterday we spent quite a bit of money, and most of it was frivolous. However, it was all CASH that we spent, and we had been saving it up for yesterday. Yesterday we celebrated our 8th anniversary, and this was the first time we were without our kids (ages 6 and 3.5) for 2 nights! We could have gone away, but we stayed home. And the only meal we ate out was lunch, for which we used gift cards. It was very special because prior to this weekend, the only time the kids had ever been with my parents overnight was one time and for one night (way less than 24 hours) when I had surgery last Sept. That was our daughter’s first night to EVER be away from us, and both kids did so well! Prior to that, the last time my son had slept over their house was when our daughter was being born, 3.5 years ago. So yes, we had planned and saved cash for some splurge money.
Ok, sorry for the rambling, I’m just a bit excited.
Happy Birthday to your girls…party’s over, you pulled it off(Mommy Magic) now you can rest.
Spent less than $20 yesterday.. on groceries/food of course. Got the 13c canned Del Monte tomato deal @Kroger, then my card earned me 10c off/ gal of gas.
Went by Qdoba and got my b1g1 free bday burrito. (Noticed they are running a special Valentines day for B1G1..if you kiss the person in line behind you)
The loan officer called for our social sec #s, for a pre qual letter for our new house. We have awesome credit, but my stomach still churned..maybe because of stress in the past??
I also got a letter asking for my social from the other drivers insurance co from my car accident a yr ago. They still owe me $5,000 (medical and car rental) I gave up on calling them and figured it would cost too much to hire an attorney for that small amount. So why do they need my social now, are they thinking of paying??? (they were found 100% responsible in arbitration when my ins wanted reimbursed for repairing my car)
Watched Suzy, Hubby is working..in Asia. We just keep pushing our way toward financial freedom
Had friends over for dinner last night and made a beautiful meal using a lot of items on hand. Just had to buy shrimp. Cleaned, did laundry all day so no other money spent.
Only $ spent was on dog food and that was cash pulled from our weekly budget. I have $3 left for the week and I’m planning to get bananas for C. He loves them and I like giving them to him with breakfast. I’m trying a new diet approach that I heard about in a podcast. It will mean more $ spent on salad and produce than before but I think it will be worth it. All meals for the rest of the week will be made at home.
Had friends over last night, made dinner for everyone here. Was able to use items from the freezer so that was good. Daughter endend up with pink eye which luckily still had the medicine from my sons pink eye so we are using that for her too…so that saved a copay
So I am trying to get some items ready for EBAY today.
Got our tax stuff ready. Plan on dropping that off to our CPA tomorrow. I so dislike this time of year! Guess it best to get it over with and find out how much more Uncle Sam wants. Anyone have a spare kid we can borrow? lol Prayed for the finances of all ML2S readers. Wrote 5 more reviews for ViewPoints. This is the third time this year they are offering this. An easy way to add $5 to my Amazon account.
Glad your party turned out so well. Hope you are feeling better Karen.
I’m sick, husband is sick…the only good thing is that we are eating nothing but chicken broth! (Cheap week for food.) We do have the heat turned up a lot, though, since we are both weak and chilled, so I dread the heating bill at the end of the month. Right now we are watching a movie and answering emails. I am not sure either one of us is going to make it into work tomorrow. So far, we have not had to go to the doctor, though.
Awww, I’m so sorry to hear that Ledith. I hope you and the hubby are better soon
I have a cold too and I know what you mean about wanting to be warm.
Went out with hubby’s coworkers last night & spent some $ that we had earned from side jobs. Tonight is a dinner sponsored by his work so we want have anything OOP. I bought groceries with the gift card I got for helping the friend & I still have $35 left for next week.
Earned another $100 on a side job & will put that towards debt.
