One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well ![]()
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Happy Valentine’s Day ladies (and gentlemen) ! I hope you have a wonderful one. We aren’t doing anything special because we decided to hold off and celebrate this coming weekend. I’m still not 100% better, but I think I’m on the mend ~ thank goodness ! I was a major load yesterday ha ha. I tried to sleep off the sickness. I slept off and on for about 3 hours during the day, which I never do. I was trying to get better before the girls got home from school. I did have little birthday treats ready for them.
We waited until Ro got home and then we were off to the circus with their cousins and 2 of my sisters. I’ll tell you more about that later, but it was fun, fun, fun! I think the girls had a good birthday. We packed treats and drinks, so no money was spent on food. I did buy each of the girls a $5 circus coloring book and a little white tiger purse, which was WAY too much money($21). It was their birthday or it wouldn’t have happened. I usually walk right on by the souveniers ! We can exchange each of our ticket stubs for a FREE 8 ct. of nuggets from Chick fil a, so that’s something.
We got home and got into bed around 11:30, so no surveys got done. I think I’m back to my old self today. I have a list of stuff to get done. I sent in Valentine’s Day cards and lollipops for the girl’s party. They are off after today until Tuesday or I probably would have let them stay home.
Yay, Friday! It’s been a rough week. I hope each of you has a nice Valentine’s Day
I’m sleepy. I need some coffee ~ ha ha.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it
You could make 2013 your year. I haven’t forgotten about naming the January winner. I promise I will, but I want to feel better first. Bear with me… Who will the February winner be ? We’ll see…

The circus sounds fun. Maybe I’ll take my kids this year since they come to town every year. That’s a good idea to pack your own snacks and take them. Yesterday I spent money at Ulta but I did have a $3.50 coupon. They bought us lunch yesterday at work so free lunch! They are talking to my husband about getting hired on full time so this would be a huge help to our family. I could use all of your prayers. Thanks and have a blessed day!
Yesterday hubby and I ordered in to celebrate Valentines Day since we can not tonight. We spent $20. I also went shopping at Kohls with a 30% coupon and bought the kids some clothes for the next sizes coming up. I love shopping Kohls clearance with a 30% coupon. It feels like such a double bonus.
I’m so glad you had fun at the circus! I think it’s sweet that splurged on gifts at the circus…the girls will always remember the fun time they had last night when they look at the purse.
I hope you are completely better soon…no fun!
Yesterday we were way too busy to spend money!
Glad you are on the mend, Karen. Its been a rough winter, with the “ice age” and a flu bug going around. Prayed for the ladies on this site for blessings of health and prosperity!!!!!!
Listened to a free Dave Ramsey podcast. Printed and organized coupons.
Got 3 new smoke detectors, for the house sale.. figured Walmart would be the cheapest…they were $6.97 each. Got a few items with coupons while I was there.
Set the table fancy for our Valentines meal tonight. Little goodie bags on the kids plates. For dessert, Im making fresh whipped cream and raspberries. (whipped together in a glass) It will look festive, and it isnt candy.
Went to rite aid yesterday, the store clerk was not very helpful and I had $20 in up+ rewards to use so I was trying to fill in my cart with extras since I didn’t need much but he wouldn’t let me use my coupons because I hadn’t bought enough stuff and the $20 came off first. I need to have it so the up+ prints at the bottom instead of loading to my card. I got a few filler items but I still came back with 3 coupons that he wouldn’t let me use and paid .12
Happy Valentines Day to all my ML2S family.
I got the nice freebie from Sam’s Club for the hands free dispenser but was a little disappointed that the soap didn’t come with it which I though it was going to…oh well. I also received 4 cans of Swanson chicken broth to test so I guess I will be making some chicken noodle soup this weekend. I did run out with a few coupons to get some breakfast items for dinner last night…familt loves those nights.
I am thinking about ordering in for Valentines but haven’t made up my mind yet; I hate to spend the money but it also is a holiday.
I am making a cheese souffle (sp?) and for dessert Nutella mousse. Yum and cheaper than going out to eat. The husband left cards all over the house before leaving for work—taped to the shower wall, taped to the coffee pot, sitting in the dish washer, and taped to my toothbrush. A week ago I gave a work buddy of his cards to put on his desk at work today, so both of us were sort of on the same track. Only one of my cards was homemade, so there was some expense involved…
Happy V.D. to all of you.
Glad to hear you are starting to feel better and that the circus was fun! I’d love to take my kids but maybe next year…money is just too tight right now. Didn’t spend a thing yesterday! Yay! We are finally all starting to get on the same ‘saving’ page in this house!!
Happy Valentines Day everyone. I hope everyone has felt extra love today. It was a no spend day today in the sense that I did not hear the sound of Cha Ching, but tomorrow will be a different story. Our four legged baby will be coming home from the vet to the tune of $649. I was out of town with my sister when she got sick, this is the second time with this bleeding gastritis, and if I would have been home I probably would have had her put to sleep because of her age and the fact that this will continue to happen, but hubby was here and he took her and told them to treat her, so that is why the bill is $649. Just when I thought we were making headway. Geez!
Karen I hope you feel completely better by the weekend. I started feeling under the weather today. Dont know if it is my nerves or the flu, so we will see.
I hope everyone has a great night.
Awww, I hope your “baby” feels better soon. It’s always something isn’t it ?
Spent some money on Valentine’s for my loves and bought dinner for tonight. It’s a lot cheaper than going out and I rather spend it with the hubs and my boys. Hope everyone has a lovely Valentine’s.
