One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well ![]()
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I spend some $$ yesterday buying supplies for Olivia and Kayla’s birthday on Saturday. I was planning on getting party favors for goodie bags at the party supply store, but since I was heading over to Target anyway I decided to keep it simple. As it turned out I did pretty well in the dollar spot. I used a $10 gift “card” from Shopkick. I also earned over 100 “kicks” while I was in Target towards my next gift card. I have to say I’m loving Shopkick. You can get and spend your gift card instantly. It comes up with a bar code on your cell phone and the cashier scans it.
The mail was nice to me yesterday. I got a check from Survey Savvy for $41.30. I like them because you can cash out for any amount. It takes a few weeks to get your money, but it’s easy. I also requested a few samples and got some other ones in the mail. I love laundry detergent and Kcup samples. I think they’re my favorites. I confirmed FREE JCPenney haircuts for the girls this Sunday. Don’t forget JCP offers free cuts for kids EVERY Sunday. How awesome is that ? I always give a generous tip but I still come out way ahead.
I made breakfast and lunch, but got pizza for the kids and my sister’s kids. She usually makes us dinner, but I didn’t want her to work too hard, so I brought dinner over for everyone. I used a gift card that I earned through Discover Rewards to pay for it. I still have a $25 balance for next time. She is an art teacher, so she had Valentine’s Day crafts all set out for the kids to do. She is also doing face painting for all of the kids at the birthday party.
Happy Friday ! I promise I will announce the winner of the January WHYD contest on Monday !
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it
You could make 2013 your year. Who will the February winner be ? We’ll see…

That is wonderful your family is so close…I love hearing about the kids getting together with their cousins…how special.
Yesterday I had to get gas, so that wasn’t cheap. But I also sold a couple things at the Consignment store for kids and got a store credit, and I sold a purse of mine I was no longer using for 50 bucks. So all in all, I came out JUST ahead.
No spend day..(until 4pm when my teen reminded me that her prescription needed filled $12.87)
Bought a friend a Starbucks with my bday gift card(used the b1g1 coupon, too)
That same friend picked up approx $650 in items to help sell on ebay/craigslist….. that $ is going straight to cc.
We are going Dave Ramsey style.. selling everything except the kids.
I love it ! I even have a spare (twins) and I’m selling everything but the kids. It’s time to kick this debt out of our lives
It was almost a no spend day. The blower went out in my car, but thankfully it should be an easy fix. The part was $31, so not too bad and cheaper than taking it to a mechanic. Today will definitely be a no spend day. Staying home d/t heavy snow. For anyone else in the path of the storm, stay safe! Received a $5 Amazon gc for writing 5 reviews for ViewPoints. Prayed for the finances of all ML2S readers.
Only spent $2.14 yesterday. Not an exciting day but that means not spending a lot.
no spend day.
Hi everyone,
Sorry I have been MIA for a while. My computer crashed, and I have to use an OLD, OLD, OLD one, and it’s so slow – I just haven’t had the patience to wait for it.
Anyway, I am finally receiving child support cheques, so things are starting to get paid finally! Glasses – paid, School bus – paid, Daughter’s acting club membership – paid, Half of a phone bill – paid, Major car repair – paid! And all with cash or cash equivalent. Next up: overdue: vet bill, gym membership (I don’t even have the membership anymore, but I owe them from before), and getting those credit cards current.
I didn’t realize how stressed I was or how far behind I was. It sure feels good to say “paid”!
Nothing spent today – we are all snowed in!
I hope to be back on a regular basis. I’ve missed you all!
Unfortunately it was a very expensive day for me yesterday. Took my kids to a show which I had purchased tickets for before christmas. So all we actually spent yesterday was for tee shirts, popcorn and fast food…but that was definately expensive enough. The kids had so much fun and are still talking about it today so I guess it was well worth it since this was the first time we did this. Today was much better! Only spent money for lunch with a few friends.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!
Well it was a spend day here but it was budgeted. Hubby found him a truck. He stayed in his allowance and is a happy man. I am a happy woman because I have my car back. I really never go anywhere but there is something about knowing that your vehicle is in the driveway that gives you peace of mind. All meals were made at home. I fixed Lasagna in the Crockpot and it was awesome. There wasnt much left so next time I will double the recipe so I will have an extra meal I received a check in the mail from Survey Saavy as well. Mine was only for $8 but it is still money and straight into the Shelly stash! Hehe! It is growing nicely. Continuing as Karen and Christy said, selling everything we dont need or use except the grandbaby and the dogs. Stay safe and warm if you are getting the Blizzard weather. Continued prayers for everyone.
We have had an expensive weekend so far. We were out of the house all day today due to many errands that had to be done and unfortunately that included 3 meals away from home. We went to breakfast with FIL and thankfully he paid, then we were planning to stay home for lunch but C fell asleep in the car and he is a devil to move and not wake up so we decided to just gather ourselves and head out again, so we had a snack later and then met up for a planned dinner with friends. Ouch that hurt, not only in terms of $ spent but my diet went to all kinds of hell today too. We are done with spending for the week as well because I put the rest of the $ we had left in our budget aside to buy dog food, I do have $20 up+ rewards and $10.50 in ecb so I will be fine for the week.
I applied for the dyson house party so I wanted to check out their vacuums and I’m not as impressed with the DC44 as I wish I was but I think I may still get it if I get chosen. Its still a really good vacuum and I seriously need one. Its also more than 1/2 off if I get chosen so its more in line with our budget.
