One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Whew, sorry this is late this morning. We were at a birthday party for my sister last night and we got to bed late. I put together a nice present for her consisting of lots of cosmetic items that I got for FREE. I also had a card, gift bag and tissue paper on hand, so it worked out great. We had a homemade cake and the cousins had fun playing together.
Earlier in the day I ran to the grocery store for a few things. My store has gas rewards where you save X$ on gas for buying certain items. I just went to get the gas deals on yesterday’s trips. There were some items that were money makers after gas rewards. I’m up to $1.60/gallon. I still have a few weeks to see how high I can get it. My whole order was pretty strategic with coupons – ha ha. Don’t you love it when it all comes together and they actually have all of the items you need at the store.
My next stop was to pick up some things that my favorite Freecycler was giving away. It ended up being a big box with 4 unopened boxes of cereal, 2 HUGE jars of Musselman’s applesauce and 6 boxes of Annie’s Organic Creamy mac ‘n cheese. I was really happy with that. She also emailed to ask if I could swing by tomorrow morning because she has a new case of granola bars she doesn’t want. She said she gets so overwhelmed with too much unopened food and wants to unload it. I don’t personally have that problem, but I’m happy to help her unload it – LOL.
All meals were made at home yesterday. I made burgers for dinner. I went to my parent’s house at lunchtime. I brought some lunchmeat and had my mom make her own sandwich. She starts intense therapy TODAY ! I’m so excited for her. She still can’t speak much, but we do hear some words. Yesterday she brought me the calendar and flipped it open to July, pointed to the 23rd (day of the stroke) and started to cry. It was heartbreaking. I cried too, but then I talked about being happy she was here, could walk and read etc… I told her she was getting better every day. She got a tissue and dried her eyes and said “okay”. I hope this therapy helps her on this journey. She is brave.
