February 23rd ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

3

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:    I haven’t been feeling very well for the past few days, so I took a little Nyquil the night before last hoping that it would help me sleep through the night.  Well, it sure did it’s job because I slept through the night.  The only problem was that I had a really hard time getting up and getting moving in the morning.  I had so much to do to get ready for the girl’s party, but I felt like I was trudging through molasses all day long.  I got a shower. I drank coffee. I finally got a little better by about 2pm.  I got everything done that I needed to do.  We picked up 2 party trays from Chick fil a.  I know this was a splurge, but I only have to do 1 party for the 2 of the girls, so that’s how I justified it.  The rest of the food was homemade.  I made one of the cakes and got the other one at BJ’s for $14.99.  It certainly wasn’t a no spend day, but the kids all had tons of fun together.  We have a little karaoke machine and they did several duets.  It was adorable.

I earned 113 Swagbucks yesterday.  I did 2 of the 3 drugstore deals after our guests left.  I still have to post the Rite Aid deals, so look for them later on today.  I watched Suze Orman.  I entered some MyCokeRewards points.  We were so busy yesterday that we didn’t even check the mail.  Oh well, I’m sure we’ll get to it today although the twins have a swim party to go to today for one of their classmates.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year. Who will the February winner be ? We’ll see…

Sounds like it was a fun party. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Yesterday wasn’t a no spend day. Too cold to do much of anything, so we took a drive and stopped for lunch. My Hubs isn’t home much, so it was nice to spend an entire day together. We also reserved (and paid for via debit) some nights at a campground for this summer. Crazy, but a lot of the campgrounds were already booked solid for the time we wanted to go.

Hope u feel better, almost spring..time to thaw out. Party sounded sweet, fun memories.

I watched Suzy Orman and a video series from our church on good money management.
Got a free salad for lunch with gc. Had a b1g1 free fast food sandwich coupon for the boys.
Returned an item to Target and also $5 in coupons they didn’t take off my transaction a few days ago, they gladly gave me the coupon $ in cash.
My son got a $150 check in the mail for a video he submitted..He is 14 and wants to be a film editor..so I guess this is his first paycheck.
Earned swag, rewrote ad for Craigs list for house rental.
I feel silly saving pennies when that place is costing us approx $2,300 a month with utilities and mortgage. It feels like a vacuum sucking $ out. The only saving grace is that the mortgage is getting paid off about $1,000/mo principal and housing prices are inching up there and the tax write off.
Praying for a good family to come, so I can actually have my Hubby home and not working all the time.

Started working in the yard trying to finish getting up the leaves we left from the fall. No spend day and all meals at home.

Sounds like a fun party! Woohoo! Found 2 box springs for the kids new beds, and paid cash for all but $50, but that was on a debit card, so technically cash instead of credit. Also saw that our tax return was approved and due to be deposited this week–which is a blessing since we’ve got to get our house ready for sale (painting and laminate flooring in the living room & hallway). We will also pay off our motorcycle, our son’s tuition for this year and most of next year’s. So happy to know that that stuff will be taken care of.

My throat has been hurting – I hope that I feel better soon! Yesterday we ran and ran and ran all around town, but no spending until quick run to Walmart for some misc items. Cleaning the house – and having the kids help out (free labor!).
