April 25th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I spent most of the day over my parent’s house hanging out with my mom so my dad could work.   I didn’t spend any money all day.  As you’ve probably noticed the new site design went live yesterday.  There are still some tweaks to be done, but it looks a lot better than it did.   Also, I’m happy to report that the newsletter should start going out again today or tomorrow at the latest (hopefully today).  You will see other cool changes popping up here and there.  My site designer and I are on different schedules, so we’ve been working hard to coordinate everything.

All meals were made at home.  Actually Ro got home early and made dinner for us, which was nice.  The mail included the grocery circulars for next week and a few great coupons.  I have a few deals to do today.  I may not be able to do my $5 Friday because the girl’s school is having a special mass for the Canonization of Pope John Paul II and they go to PJPII school.  The kids have been working on songs, so I want to see them sing and celebrate.

I earned 131 Swagbucks, which helped me just meet my second goal.  I also did another survey before bed. I earned my daily Bing points.  I will have enough points for 500 Swagbucks in the next day or two. I cashed out some Swagbucks for a $25 gift card to Red Robin.  I was tempted to snag a $100 gift card to Home Depot (to save up for a snow blower for Ro for next winter).  I’m still thinking about it.  I didn’t get it yet because I’m just afraid Home Depot will stop selling the brand he wants before then.  I’m sure we would still be able to use the gift card, so I’m probably going to get it at some point.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the April winner be ? We’ll see…

Love the new site! I was kind of blown away this morning when I saw it for the first time!
Thought maybe I was at the wrong site. Looks great! Yesterday was a no spend day. Earned 200 swagbucks but got little else done but a little bit of cleaning around my house. I told my kiddos (even though we homeschool) that this was ‘Spring Cleaning Week” instead of spring break. They weren’t happy but then again they haven’t cleaned very much either. We’ve been kind of lazy.

Stopped at Menards after work for a few of their rebate deals. I actually bought 15 cases of water. They had a rebate deal making it only $1.50/case and we easily go through 2 cases/week. Met both my swag goals. Had $25 credit to my paypal account and will be able to request another $25 within the next few days.

    Love the new site layout!
Btw, I am so thankful that you have a search option and keep stuff loaded–I wanted the posts from Hannah’s birthday and the next day’s shoutout to put in her baby book–Hey, it’s important!– and I was so happy to see it. I actually started tearing up.
We’ve spent more money than we’d like lately, however all has been cash we’ve saved for the projects. We got the house painted, floored, rugged (got 2 larger area rugs for under $100). The Realtor is coming today or tomorrow to take a peek and talk to us. Hopefully we can get the floor finished tomorrow. Yesterday we ended up going out to dinner, as a woohoo to the hubs for passing his physical test for active duty and hit up Target after–scored a bunch of stuff for under $40, including at least 3 mos worth of goldfish packets (kids are obsessed) and the stuff to make the teacher Thank You’s for this year. Also made some $$ selling extra stuff–working to clear out anything I can!

Also went to Target, there Easter stuff was ravished thru already. I did get the toothpaste deal.
and a couple items on cartwheel.
Meals at home, organized coupon binder,Hubby did budget and printed it for me to see.
Took the boys to scouts..one of their leaders is a spear fisherman/diver and has offered to teach them scuba for small fee. They are studying and first dive is this weekend.

Shopped clearance at old navy and tj maxx to replace outgrown kid clothes.
Got some long sleeve shirts to cut and hem sleeves. Small effort large savings. In season graphic tees $6 to $12. Long sleeves $1.47. Also stocked girls on socks. Really working on reeling in unecessary spending.
