April 28th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  We had a busy, family day yesterday.  Ro was up early mowing the lawn for the first time of the season.  We went and did a few deals at Walmart.  We invited my parents over for a preseason BBQ.  I just needed a few finishing touches.  We had hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, macaroni salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert.  I made deviled eggs with the last of the Easter eggs.  The girls dyed 3 dozen eggs with their friend from school, so we’ve been having LOTS of egg salad around here – ha ha.  I’m proud to say that we used every one of those eggs.  Lunch was extra yummy and we had leftovers, so guess what ?? It became dinner – ha ha.  It was great because I didn’t have to cook and everyone ate well.

I ordered a few things from Amazon.  I had a credit, so I used it to pay for them.  I’m gonna  “keep it real” and tell you that I splurged and bought something at Pier 1.  Ro and I have been looking for a table for our sitting room and we hadn’t seen anything we liked.  I fell in love with a table there.  I brought Ro to see it and he loved it too.  Luckily it was on a great sale.  We can pick it up on Friday.  I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything at Pier 1 before.  I think I looked in there once and didn’t see anything I felt like paying for – ha ha.

I earned 107 Swagbucks.  I also did a few other surveys for other companies.  I printed some coupons that I plan to use on grocery store deals today.  I also have 2 things to return today that we don’t need. I packed the girls lunches today.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the April winner be ? We’ll see…

Swagbucks was hard yesterday! I just barely made the goal. My husband told me he’d take us out to dinner this week with a kids eat free coupon, but it is not in the budget. I’m trying to resist!

My boys did their first dive with their assistant scoutmaster..it was awesome and he had all the equipment for them to use. My daughter and I snorkeled. I packed snacks/drinks and sandwiches.
For dinner I used the 2 free cards from Panda Express. Clipped coupons from the paper, planned the week.

Had a hectic busy weekend, but isn’t that the way with kiddos? Had soccer games and my girl scored a goal!! Woohoo! We bribed her, to get her more motivated, not to mention the chocolate bunny from Easter has perked her up a bunch. We told her we’d get her a toy if she scored a goal, who knew she’d score one in the first game after the bribe! My husband and I were both shocked. She was so into the game, which she hasn’t been before. She loves to play, just not work too hard at it, lol. Took her to Target to shop for a toy but she couldn’t find anything she wanted. A very tough decision for a 7 yr old. Spent a little money to build a nice flower bed for the rose bushes I bought cheap at Aldi last week and picked up 2 more. Looks great and can’t wait for the blooms. Found a new church and treated the kiddos to McDonalds yesterday. All other meals were made at home this weekend.
