April 30th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I had a good day yesterday.  I had a meeting to go to for most of the morning.  After that I went out for coffee with a friend who is going through a tough time.  It was nice to sit and chat while pondering life ha ha.  Over the weekend we started up our air conditioning unit just to see if it was in good working order.  It’s only a 2 year old system, so we thought we were good.  When we turned it on it started making a lot of noise and it didn’t cool down the house at all (we were just testing it, but still).  I had the company come out that installed it.  It turns out that we were supposed to have them out to clean the unit each year.   That’s why it was having issues.  Apparently it was FREE and included in our warranty.  The technician took care of it for us and the noise stopped.  We shut it down until we need it, but we’re happy that we know it will work :).

I sold 3 items on Ebay last night.  I’m going to stash the money in our emergency fund.  I’m trying to beef that up again.  I got an order from Staples that I had placed when they had a $30 off of a $60 cleaning supply coupon available.  I was able to get 4 mega boxes of trash bags and 6 kitchen sponges for $31 shipped.  We should be stocked up on trash bags at least through the end of the year.  I also got the Sharktale DVD in the mail that I got really inexpensively on Amazon.  I think the girls will love it.  I also got a free sample of Tide detergent.  I posted about all of this, so I hope you guys got in on the deals too.

I earned 183 Swagbucks yesterday.  Check the home page for an 8 Encrave activity from Best Buy.  You can do it multiple times for 8 SB’s each time.  I did it about 6 times last night.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the April winner be ? We’ll see…

Resisted going out to dinner tonight. Yeah! We are going on a little two day vacation and I just meal planned for it. This is something I’ve never done, but I’m so glad I did. Little plans like bring a box of doughnuts and juice boxes for breakfast should save us a ton of money which helps me relax!

Rainy day yesterday but I was able to go through a lot of boxes and put things away. SIL and her kids are going to come over for lunch today, they haven’t seen the house yet so that should be fun. I will then be going through yet more boxes and putting things away. I also received my easy Bloom plant sensor that I ordered. It was a bit of a splurge but it was on a really good sale. It will measure the sunlight and soil conditions around our house so I know exactly where to put my garden this year. I’m really excited to test it out when it finally stops raining.

A friend took me to the military exchange=no tax. I bought a rash guard and shorts. We had fun trying on clothes but i resisted temptation to buy clothes I don’t need
She even treated me to lunch.
Made beans and rice for dinner. Mr Ramsey would be proud.
Its payday… now we just follow our budget… every little dollar has an assignment.
Put 2 things aside to sell on ebay.

Murphy struck in a huge way. The transmission in my SUV went out. With just shy of 200K miles, it isn’t worth fixing. We had it towed to our house (free with our AAA membership) and will be looking for another vehicle. While most people would love a newer vehicle (mine was a 2004) I’m not big on change, even when it comes to what I drive!
