May 10th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

whyd

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I did a little bit of deal shopping yesterday. I ran to Walgreens and picked up my FREE enlargement.  I also picked up 4 packs of Wrigleys 5 gum for free, as well as a tube of Colgate Optic White toothpaste for free.  I went to my local grocery store to pick up a box of the Jiffy blueberry muffin mix.  It will be free after cash back from SavingStar.  I made all meals at home. We had sloppy joe’s and tater tots for dinner (not the most glamorous meal, but it was good and better than eating out).

I earned 148 Swagbucks yesterday.  The mail contained a few free samples including one from Carnation Instant Breakfast and a Pantene sample.  I spent an hour or so outside with the kids playing.  I’m officially “off duty” until Monday morning.  My hubby is pretty good to me for Mother’s Day.  I don’t have to cook, clean or basically do much of anything all weekend.   I am going to be wined and dined (not really, but whatever we’re eating, I’m not cooking it).  It’s all Ro’s idea.  He didn’t even want me to cook dinner last night :)  I he realizes that Father’s Day (and his birthday) are right around the corner and I always return the favor in June.  For now, I’m going to ENJOY it :)  I hope you are all being spoiled too !

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Enjoy the special treatment! I think my youngest wanted to maximize our time together this weekend so he got up at 4:30 this morning. Ugh! With the shorts weather we had yesterday I became really, really embarrassed that I wear my husbands socks. I realized I had gotten an email from Kmart saying I had a $10 reward that could only be spent on clothes. I went over to see if socks counted and they did so I got 7 pair and only paid 75 cents.

Sold $63 of items at friend’s garage sale. Packed lunches for school
Drove downtown to prom. Got parking validated at hotel, paid$3.25 instead of $20
Neither of my freshman had dates this year, so we didn’t have to buy flowers/corsages.
I rented a tux for my son,($52) but my daughter wore a dress she already had.
Some parents invited us to Cheesecake factory..resisted that temptation. My oldest and I ate dinner at the food court at the mall while we waited. (I didn’t want to deal with tourists or tipping)
