May 1st ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

whyd

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  It poured all day long here yesterday.  My darling husband woke me up at 5:15, so after getting the girls on the bus it was SO tempting to curl up under a blanket and take a nice, long nap. Ro even told me too.  I just couldn’t do it though. I’d feel guilty because there’s always so much to do.  I did some cleaning and organizing.  I also ran to Dollar General to do a few deals.  I ran to the grocery store just for salad fixings.  I stuck with my list and didn’t buy anything else.

I went over and hung out with my mom so that my dad could drop their dog off to be groomed and to get an oil change.  It was sopping wet outside, so my dad didn’t want to risk my mom slipping and falling.  The rest of the day was spent inside.  I got a sample of Pantene shampoo and conditioner in the mail.  The rest of the mail was junk.  I earned 136 Swagbucks.  A reward was posted to my account (a $25 gift card to Red Robin).  It’s one of Ro’s favorite restaurants and his birthday is coming up soon, so maybe we’ll use it to celebrate.  I made all meals at home yesterday.  Dinner was a giant salad, chicken parmesan and pasta (for the kids).

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Pretty quiet day around here yesterday because of the rain. C and I did run out early for lunchmeat and gas because my SIL came over with her 2 kids. They didn’t stay too long but it was nice to see them again. After that C and I just hung out and I worked on looking through a couple more boxes. I just set my Plant sensor out this morning to take a reading. I hope it does ok even with all the clouds.

Used a raincheck(last day) and 5% debit card @Target for nightstands for our daughter. She has had her lamps
on the floor since we moved in 6 months ago. 3 of the kids still have their mattress on the floor, our goal is to be painted, furnished, and blinds by August.
We do miss our dog that we gave away to move here, but I am glad we don’t have that extra pet expense right now. We had lots of problems at the rental..roof leak, heater, water pressure..etc. So that has been our focus. Excited to sell it next summer.
I ordered a subscription to Macworld for Hubbys bday it was 74% off.
Rented a tux for son’s upcoming dance..they had a special… basic, no upgrades..at least he got to pick the color of his bow tie. It came to $51 including shoes. He looked so handsome trying it on..I teared up.

Bought a new-to-me car. Decided to go with a 2011 Malibu with 27K miles. I prefer an SUV, but this was more cost effective and will get me better gas mileage. Absolutely hated to take on this expense, but it couldn’t be avoided. Reliable transportation (that and my trans was shot in my current vehicle) gave me no choice.
