May 2nd ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

whyd

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I spent most of the day with my mom so that my dad could go to work.  I printed out some of the awesome new coupons that came out when I got home.  I got a few cool free sample in the mail.  I also got the free sponge that I won from Libman.  I made all meals at home.  We went over to my sister’s house after dinner so that the kids could play together.  I packed the girl’s lunches for today.

For the past few days I have been feeling like my heart has been skipping beats.  My dad listened to my heart and confirmed it.  I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon.  She listened to my heart and heard the skipping so she gave me an EKG.  Apparently it’s just PVC, which I had never heard of, but is apparently harmless.  It could be stress or lack of sleep (or caffeine?).  I only need to call if I try all of the above and it doesn’t get better. Anyway, it was a $20 copay, but it did give me peace of mind.

I earned 113 Swagbucks yesterday.  I reached my first goal, but it took me until bedtime to do.  I am getting ready to cash out for another free gift card today.  I earned my 15 points on Bing and did another survey for a different company.  I’m hoping to get some deal shopping done today.  Where do the days go? It’s already Friday !  Have a good one !

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

No spend day yesterday, C and I had all meals at home and MIL came over in the afternoon with our niece who hadn’t seen the house yet. She then played outside with C in the afternoon. We then walked back to MILs to get a few things she was going to bring for dinner and walked back to make it. Otherwise it was a pretty quiet day around here.

No spend day for me yesterday. Listed as many things as I could for sale, wanting to clean out and got an unexpected “surprise!” the other day.
Our A/C wasn’t spitting out cool/cold air at all and we’ve been in the 80s for most of the past couple weeks. Ick. We had it checked, figuring it was low on fre-on. That was a good guess, but we also have a bad compressor (I think), leak, and reversed polarity on the outside unit which is contributing to our lack of cool air. With the many things wrong, the system wouldn’t pass an inspection for selling the house. All in all, we need to replace the system, which will be a 4-5K expense.
No spend day again today, just cleaning and getting ready to have the Realtor come look at the house.

I cannot yet resist school fundraisers! I have also been buying a lot of books for the kids which is crazy. Use the library! Ate out dinner.

Did some brainstorming for ways to cut more out of our budget. Our fuel expense will decrease with my (new to me) vehicle, so that will help some. Summer is also a good time for me to cover shifts for vacationing coworkers, so that will help too. I will not let a visit from Murphy cause me to give up the fight!
