May 3rd ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

whyd

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I had lots of fun deal shopping yesterday.  I went out and did my $5 Frugal Friday deals.  I was able to get quite a bit for just under $5.  You can scroll down to see the deals, but I basically got 4 Physician’s Formula powder compacts, 3 Pantene shampoos, 2 packs of Trident, 2 Revlon eye shadows, 1 tube of kid’s Aquafresh toothpaste and 1 box of Kraft mac & cheese for $4.93.  I was happy with that.  I made all meals at home even though my hubby was tempting me to eat out for dinner.  He enjoyed his “at home” dinner just as much.

I also did a little bit of grocery shopping.  I actually just bought a few weeks worth of meat and juice for the girl’s lunches.  The juices were on a good deal anyway, but I earned a gas discount of $.50/gallon for buying them.  The chicken was all 40% off.  I stocked up.  The mail only included a free magazine and the sewer/trash bill.  I entered some MyCokeRewards codes, made some detangler for the girl’s hair and got gas with a small discount.

I took the girls over to my sister’s house so the kids could hang out.  My little 10 year old nephew (love him) showed me the coolest video on YouTube.  If you want a good cry go to YouTube and type Irish Priest sings at wedding and see it. I loved it :).  Let me know if you check it out.  The kids had snacks and played together.  I earned 124 Swagbucks and did 2 surveys.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Not exactly a frugal day yesterday. I did my deal shopping early and came home. I wanted to head over to Kmart to check out if they had any clearance slippers, I also had a coupon for a free entree at Friday’s which is in the same place so we decided to eat out. Dh got a pricey entree and we both got “drinks” so our bill wasn’t any cheaper than usual, I was annoyed because I never get a bar drink and I remember why. So that kind of killed our budget for the week, the rest has to go toward groceries. My SIL wants to get all the kids together for a pic at Target this week so I have to get a shirt for C and she wants to get a pic made for MIL which is fine but I’ll have to contribute to that also, just made for a tight week this week because of our splurge.

Paid $201 to cc.( I want to see it below 10k.)
Went to Home Depot and got 2 paint samples, friend used her military discount for me. Got a jamba juice for lunch with a $2 off coupon. Earned some swag. Neighbors invited boys over, they ate dinner there.
Daughter had 2 music gigs last night one at a business grand opening, and the other at a jazz bar.(we are not into the bar scene and she is only 18 but they LOVED her) it was $15 to park and I just drank diet coke, she had water.

Lunch at home. After work Drove all over the town for activities and somehow ended up buying fast food three times at different times and for different kids . Resisting temptation to book Disney now that free dining is out!! No money yet!
