May 4th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  We had a good day yesterday, but it wasn’t too eventful. We did make a run to Home Depot to get flowers and mulch for out front.  The mulch was 5 bags for $10 and the flowers were a decent price. I also ran into Aldi to snag some eggs and rolls for a barbeque that we are having for family today.   I made all meals at home yesterday except for dinner.  We ate dinner at my sister’s house.  The mail didn’t include anything of interest.

I had a credit on ThredUp, so I cashed it in to get some shorts and shirts for the girls for Summer.  The shipping was FREE, so my total out of pocket was only $1.37.  I did the drugstore deals for all of us last night while chatting with my sister.  I didn’t get to watch Suze Orman, but I DVR’d it for another day. My sister and I actually spent time checking our credit reports for free.  She is going through some changes and wanted to see where she was.  Of course that made me curious about my score.  We are very exciting on a Saturday night, aren’t we? Ha ha.   I clipped some coupons for deals at the grocery store. I only earned 107 Swagbucks, but it was enough to help me meet my first goal so it was good.  It was a beautiful day outside yesterday.  I hope we  all have a good one today too.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Worked yesterday. Picked up an additional shift later in the month. Reviewed our budget. Having a car payment makes me feel sick. Looking for ways to pay it off in 1/2 the time and also rebuild our savings.

Invited to Eagle Scout ceremony, we ate lunch there.
Made pasta for dinner with leftover sausage,
    Boys went diving..all borrowed equipment.
Got inspired for a little side business, my friend buys furniture at reuse store / repaints it with milk paint and sells it on craigslist.
Refused temptation to buy coffee while we were running around

We made it back from an awesome little vacation. My husband said that it was the nicest hotel he had ever been in and I only paid $95! The hotel also had some awesome freebies for the kids– a movie for the kids in their movie theater with popcorn and free ice cream, but I was way too tired to take advantage of them. It completely went against my freebie nature but you can only handle so much fun in a day!

Yesterday was pretty simple–Realtor came to look at our house and gave us hope! We should be able to list/sell our house for about 20k more than we had in mind, which is amazing! Let’s hope it sells for that much…what a great debt killer. Only money spent was $22 for dinner.
