May 5th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  We had a fun, family day yesterday.  I actually didn’t leave the house or spend any money.  We cooked out on the BBQ for my parents, my brother and his family and one of my sisters and her family. I think we had company for about 4 or 5 hours.  Ro sang karaoke for us and then he did a duet of an Elvis Presley song with my mom.  It was really sweet.  My brother and I also did a few songs from our childhood.  It was really fun.  Everyone brought something and we ate leftovers for dinner.  I think we still have some leftovers to put with dinner tonight.

I earned 96 Swagbucks yesterday, which was good since I didn’t devote a lot of time to it.  Before and after the party we cleaned, cleaned, cleaned.  It’s nice to start out the week with a clean house :)

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Tithed at church, watched Suzy Orman, clipped coupons from paper.
Took my son into the city..and had 3 hours to burn, walked around the mall, looked at all the pretties but only spent $3 on a half price Frappacino at Starbucks happy hour. It was of big and filling I didn’t need much dinner. Kids had leftovers.
    Got ready for week ahead.

I went out to dinner and a show downtown with a girlfriend, it was nice to hang out with just her. Dinner was very reasonably priced but we made up for it by getting a drink at the show which was way way way over priced, I was really thirsty or I would have said forget it. C and I are doing some yard work today getting ready for our blueberries (I ordered from the link you posted) and cleaning up some of the weeds. I transplanted the tulips that were in the spot I want to put the blueberries I hope they do well, if not I will have to plant some more, they were really pretty this spring. We may run out to lancaster because we have to pick up a piece of jewelry I had sent away for repair and then in the process of moving forgot about, I called and its still there so we’re going to have to go out there and get it. I’ll probably stop by the old house and pick up my tomato planters.

Took the munchkins shoe shopping yesterday–got 3 pairs (1 @ Stride Rite, 2 @ Payless) for under $30, which was awesome. Found myself some capri’s that cover the hiney, which I never seem to find anymore. Got to hit up Target for some plastic totes, bagels for $.44, and a few other things. Came home and started to clean/organize like the Realtor told us to go ahead and do. We have so much stuff–hubs is a complete pack rat.
