May 8th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I had a decent day yesterday. I was at home for most of the morning getting organized and working on some paperwork.  I met my parents for lunch at their favorite deli.  I actually treated them, but it wasn’t too much.  I made dinner at home and I made an extra meal for later in the week.  It’s almost as easy to make 2 or 3 meals as it is to make 1.  I spent some time printing and organizing coupons.

I watched some videos on eHow and Youtube trying to learn how to do a few simple home repairs.  No sense paying someone else to do repairs I can learn to do myself. I downloaded a few free Kindle books.  Ro and I talked briefly about trying to do some kind of a business together.  I earned 122 Swagbucks, earned my daily 15 Bing Rewards points, organized my coupons and signed up to hopefully host a few upcoming House Parties.  The girls have “dress down” day in school today, so they were super excited to choose comfy clothes to wear instead of their usual uniforms.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Did some grocery shopping yesterday. We were down to nothing. Saved over $10 by catching mistakes at 2 stores. Crazy! Walgreens charged me twice for the TP & at Target the mobile Q & the cartwheel didn’t come off. The cashier there was wicked! I did get 6 free cans of Progresso soup. Target had them on clearance for $.98 & I had $1 off Q’s. Yeah!! I spent about $100 & that included 46 lbs of dog food, 3 T-bones, 4 round steaks, 16 boneless pork chops, 5 lbs of hamburger, milk, fruit etc should get us through 1 1/2 wks besides more milk.
    Added 100 coke pts.
Put a pork tenderloin in the crock pot before going shopping so dinner was ready when I got home.

Got a free item at Panda express, added it to leftover rice and kids had it for dinner. Then of course they ate bowls of cereal before bed.
I ate lunch at bible study. Earned swag, paid a lady(friend of friend) to sew on some BSA patches. I don’t have a machine. She charged $30 for 9 little patches. I thought that was outrageous. Plus, it busted the budget and I had to take $40 out of savings for the weekend.
Picked up son’s tux for prom.(we just got the plain/basic/cheapest one)

No spend day yesterday. Trying my best to keep things on track. We have some big expenses coming up which thankfully are happening at the best possible time for us. Just have to make some adjustments to our budget to pay it all off and pay back any that we have borrowed.

Ate out both meals, boo. But did do a few returns Also coke rewards and kelloggs rewards. Tried to find out if I purchased a warranty on my printer, but can’t find my receipts and the store says I have to call. I haven’t yet.
