May 9th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

whyd

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I hung out with my mom for the day so my dad could go to work.  We went to Trader Joe’s and I got some things for the girl’s lunch boxes as well as a few other items.  We grabbed a sandwich at a deli in the same shopping complex.  I earned 106 Swagbucks and cut out some coupons that I hope to use today.  I spent some time planning out what I hope to plant/grow this season.  I have some seeds to get started this weekend.  I have to pull some weeds first (hmmm, maybe today= not my favorite job).  My Ebay items ended last night.  I earned $49 for our emergency fund.  I have to go today to get the items shipped that have been paid for.

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year.  Who will the May winner be ? We’ll see…

Put in my 100 points in Kelloggs rewards for mother’s day! Ate out yesterday, but not significant price. Had to buy gas also. Have to clean out my garage – my garage door broke and i need room for the repair guys to get in (I use my garage as a storage unit). I hope that it doesn’t wipe out my savings!

Twice this week around 2:00 I had decided we were going out to dinner. Once after a day long field trip with kindergarten and once when I just wasn’t feeling too great. Both times, I changed my mind back by 3:00 and made dinner. Now I’m so glad I powered through and stuck with the plan!

Our dogs got into it again last night with DH right next to them. They are now separated 100% of the time no exceptions. Dh was grilling and spilled some juice from a sausage package and that set them off. We will also be trying out prozac for our male. I feel bad for them because they’re already locked up all day long because of C but we just can’t risk it. Life is still better for them here than in a shelter. We may end up insulating the porch better in the future and then they can take turns having some time out there once we finish cleaning it up. The downside to the fight was that our girl had to be wrapped up again, the boy is limping and DH wrenched his shoulder trying to break it up.

I did some light grocery shopping this morning and got things for dinner tonight and a few things DH needed for Sunday. I’ll be meal planning and shopping later this weekend for the week.
