Mommy Luvs 2 Save

Use Extreme Couponing To Save You Money and Get Your Family Out of Debt

August 2nd ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

August 2, 2012 by Karen 10 Comments

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment.  My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !

It can be very difficult to pay down debt.  There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.

I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day.  One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month.  To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress: I paid alot of bills today. First on my list was the mortgage because I didn’t want to forget like I did last month (dumb dumb moment).  I also paid the utility bills.  I paid Discover in full last night because they’re tricky and want it at the end of the month instead of the beginning. My goal is to pay them $0 in fees and $0 in finance charges, while earning FREE gift cards.  I’ve had a great year with this so far.  I have to add up the value of my FREE gift cards for the year, but I’m thinking it’s around $600 or so.

I also spent a good bit of time doing some pre-shopping deal strategizing.  I put my lists together for Target, my local grocery store and CVS. I also ran into Rite Aid to snag 2 Dove conditioners and 2 Axe deodorants for $.50 each after UP+ reward.  That’s my stock up price and my hubby loves having Axe in his own personal stockpile.

We went to Chili’s for dinner because it was the last night for the FREE Kid’s meals.  Ro got the never ending soup and salad for $6.99.  It came with FREE chips and salsa, so our meal for all of us was only $19.65 + tip.  I had a $50 gift card from Discover Rewards that I used to pay for our meal. We still have $25 left for our next trip.  I’ll wait for another FREE Kid’s meal day 🙂

I added 40 more points to MyCokeRewards (20 from the ones I’ve posted each day and 2 from packs I had laying around).  I ordered another Spicy McBites and then ordered another FREE coupon with the deal I posted last night. I also printed a ton of coupons.  There were so many hot coupons out yesterday.  Woo hoo!

What did you do ?  I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. You could make 2012 your year !

I used 80 points of my cokerewards today from the deal you posted yesterday. I ran to Krogers and picked up a few things and saved over 50% with coupons. All our meals are being made at home today.

I spent some money on medicine and frozen lunches for work (much cheaper than eating at the cafe here). I only spent $19 so that wasn’t too bad. Other than that, it was a no spend day and I earned 23 swagbucks.

No spend day. Harvested 34 pounds of beets and deyhdrated about half. Used some of the rest to make chocolate muffins that have ground up beets in them—-you don’t taste it and they are healthier than the usual muffins because you also use less sugar. Alos harvested, chopped and froze about 15 pounds of leeks for future soups. I love my garden this time of year!!

I didn’t spend any money yesterday. I always pack breakfast and lunch and so does my husband. That really saves a lot of money. I wanted to go to Shoprite to get some stuff ( have catalinas, or shoprite money how my husband calls them), but it was raining very bad, so I couldn’t make it.

I am SO sorry to hear about that. How awful. As you said Thank God he wasn’t injured and bless his heart for still trying to coupon. I hope they catch and prosecute the person who did it to him.
