One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress : Well, it was an interesting day to say the least (more on that later). I went to Kohl’s to redeem a $25 gift card. I was hoping to get a nice tablecloth for our dining room table as the color scheme is way different from our old house. I ended up getting a table cloth, kitchen rug and entry rug. I must admit that I did something Dave Ramsey would kill me for. I applied for their credit card JUST to save 30% off of my items. I plan to pay it in full when the bill comes and stick it away somewhere (or cut it up). The 30% discount is good through 12/24 so maybe I won’t cut it up until the 26th or so. I probably shouldn’t spend time cutting up credit cards on Christmas day-ya think?
I got my FREE $10 Subway gift card in the mail from MyCokeRewards. I also got my coupons for 4 FREE 12 packs of Coke products. I will save them for a Buy2Get2 deal that my local store does every few months.
I am still unpacking and it’s starting to feel like a home around here. I find at least one thing I was really looking for each day. The tree is up and we have at least some decorations out. My hubby is having trouble hanging the outside lights, but there is a bump-out where we have the tree and you can see it from the street so that’s something right?? The twins are thrilled with it.
On to my crazy story (scroll down for deals if you don’t have time to read it, I won’t be sad I promise). First, let me preface this story by saying that we live in a really decent neighborhood. It’s quiet. Everyone seems to take pride in their home and yard … Anyway, a few days ago (the day after move in day), we were outside and we noticed a really long white cord extending from the side of our house to our next door neighbor’s house. Of course my hubby being the proactive guy he is went to our new neighbor’s door inquiring as to why he hooked up a wire to our house. The neighbor (an older gentlemen with a wife and two teenage children) tells my husband that something is wrong with his cable and he is “borrowing” ours. My husband tells him to unplug it. Yesterday, Ro notices that again the wire is plugged into our house and it’s not even in the grass – it’s about six inches off of the ground. My husband unplugs it, rolls it in a ball and throws it in his yard. Today, we were leaving to run some errands and as we are driving past our house we see that this wire is once again plugged into our house. My husband stops the car (in the middle of the street) and gets out of the car. Here I am sitting in the passenger in the middle of the street. I wisely decide(he he) to get into the driver’s seat and drive the car back to the house. We walked around the side of the house to see exactly what’s going on and this “neighbor” actually has a splitter installed and is actively hijacking our cable. I mean REALLY~ who does that ??? He has met my husband who is almost 7ft tall. Have you ever heard of something so ridiculous ?? My husband wanted to call 911, but I didn’t think it qualified as an emergency (it may have turned into one if my husband got mad enough, but he’s a teddy bear- a mad one, but still). We did call our cable company and they are coming out tomorrow morning. I’ll fill you in on the developments later… , but really who does THAT ? Am I crazy or have I been living some sheltered existence of normal neighbordom? I just cannot imagine doing that to a new neighbor (or anyone for that matter) I mean you know I’m all about helping people save money, but I have to draw the line somewhere !!
Oh well, into every life a little rain must fall right ? What would you do in this crazy situation?
I have such a silly sense of humor that I was teasing Ro about not being able to get the outside lights working. I jokingly told him that maybe he could get the hijacker/neighbor to help him hang the lights to make up for stealing our cable, but most likely he would plug all of his own Christmas lights into our plug (if he hasn’t already). I can just picture Ro outside flipping the switch to turn off our Christmas lights and the neighbor’s lights going off too and it dawning on him that he’s been hijacked once again. I don’t know why I find that funny, but if you don’t laugh, you cry. I choose laughter.
We ate all meals at home. I did 3 surveys after tucking in the girls. Their cousin came over to play so they got to bed a little late. I’m done “talking” you to death, but don’t forget that TODAY is giveaway day so check back in for a few giveaways throughout the day !
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the December winner.
