One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Yesterday was my mom’s birthday. I had been
hoarding saving 2 Groupons for The Body Shop in anticipation of this very day. Each Groupon is valid for $40 of FREE merchandise so that’s a total of $80 worth of FREE stuff. I was even hoping to snag one of my favorite facial moisturizers. Needless to say I went to the mall JUST get the gifts. I even had my hubby wait in the car. I walked virtually around the whole upstairs of the mall only to find out that the store has closed down. That shows you how often I get to the mall. Bummer #2 was that the closest Body Shop is almost 30 minutes away and in a really icky mall. By icky I mean HUGE, pretentious and extremely expensive. It’s filled with all of the yuppy shops I avoid like the plague. I guess I’ll have to call to find out exactly where it is so that I can park nearby without having to walk by all of the overpriced stores. I’ll have to keep my head down and walk really, really fast (he he). I mean, really, they have a store filled with all different kinds of exotic bubble gumballs. They are $14/lb (hazelnut flavored gumballs anyone??).
I have a gift card for Bath & Body Works, but of course I left it at home so I ended up having to pay for the present without a coupon or gift card. I hate that, BUT I love my mom so I had to do it. I did manage to take advantage of the Buy 3 Get 3 deal that they had going on.
My dad had a really big Restaurant.com gift card that he was trying to use up (he didn’t wait for me to teach him and went rogue on the site buying the wrong certificate) so he wanted to treat everyone. We had a really nice time. It was nice for everyone to be together. We went back to my parent’s house for cake and ice cream after dinner.
Not exactly a frugal day, but it sounds like alot of you had a rough day as well.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the December winner.
