One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: My hubby went out of town yesterday to make a quick visit to see his family (about 4 hours away). We were going to go too, but due to unforseen circumstances we stayed home. Let’s see, how can I put this delicately ~ ummm, my husband sometimes struggles with frugality. Sometimes he wants to pretend he’s rich until I come along and burst that cute little bubble he’s living in temporarily. Case in point ~ He wanted me to give him the credit card to charge a hotel suite complete with in room jacuzzi for just himself. Okay, I can’t live with that. I have a hard time paying for a hotel room at all when ALL of his family lives there. Our conversation went a little like this: “Is there not one person who will let you sleep on the couch? I reasoned”, “nope” – he responded. Here’s the thing- I don’t want to fight about money. I did voice my opinions about the subject (ex. well your family is always welcome at our house when they visit us ??!, could you get a really, really cheap room possibly without the jacuzzi ? Is there any way you’d be willing to take a shower instead of soaking in a jacuzzi during your one night hotel stay four hours away from home? Answer(s) nope, nope and ah nope). Instead of arguing and him leaving on a bad note I reminded him that we temporarily have two mortgages and sent him on his way with the credit card to do whatever his conscience would allow. The good news is that he just called to tell me that he stayed with his brother ~ He did say “Are you happy NOW ????” to which I responded “Whatever you think is best honey” (insert major eyeroll here he he), but alls well that ends well right ?? It reminds me of that funny commercial where the woman insists that she’s rich enough to afford the crown jewels. Is that not the funniest commercial? I love it.
Okay, so I dodged the jacuzzi bullet so that saved at least $120 right? I did take the twins out for lunch. We used a Restaurant.com certificate and grabbed dinner to go since I had to get my total to $35 before applying the $25 voucher. My total was just over $10 for lunch and dinner for the three of us ~ not too shabby. After lunch we swung by the old house to check for mail and packages. I recently changed the address, but some packages are still coming. There were 2 boxes waiting for us. They were more Christmas presents so I’m glad I snagged them. I’ve heard there are alot of people stealing UPS boxes from doorsteps lately so I try to get over there once a day to get them.
Next we went to Casual Male because they sent me a $20/$20 purchase coupon. My hubby and I aren’t giving one another presents this year because we feel so blessed to have the new house. I did want to get him something from the girls though. I ended up getting a 3 pack of Tshirts for him. Can you believe they were $20? At least they were FREE after the coupon. I will probably get him some dark chocolate to go along with it (hopefully on a sale).
Check out the picture below of the neighbor’s cable wire rolled in a ball and thrown in his lawn in case you thought I was making up stories he he! It hasn’t been reconnected as yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the December winner.
