One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I felt very productive yesterday. I don’t know if I told you guys or not, but on moving day my hubby broke one of the girl’s beds. We’ve been propping the side up on books hoping that they didn’t notice. The good news is that I hardly ever buy those “platinum protection plans”, but I did this time because when we bought the beds the girls were into jumping on their beds and Olivia broke her old one (the reason we needed new beds in the first place). Long story short, the man came and fixed it for free today and the girls were never the wiser – YES !
Next I headed to CVS and finally mangaged to use up my $41 in ECBs. At long last I found 2 Zhu Zhu pets and got them both for $1. I got the rest of the stuff for the twin’s stockings (lip gloss- 75% off, 2 princess cups, princess and Tinkerbell stickers, little holiday candies, fun kid’s toothbrushes and a few other tidbits). I also bought 2 Hershey’s Pot O’ Gold assortments. I had coupons + a coupon for $3/2 from the magical coupon scanner. I also got chips (BOGO) and drinks for a little get together we are having tonight. I also snagged the rest of the wrapping paper that I will need for this year. I got Tinkerbell for Livie’s presents and Princess for Kayla (and a big roll for everyone else). I was very happy with how far I was able to stretch my $41 in ECBs. I even got $2 more for next time.
I stopped for lunch at McDonald’s to use coupons that I got from a Living Social deal so lunch was FREE. I got a $10/$10 coupon via email for Kohl’s so I stopped in and snagged 2 small gifts with it.
After dinner (made at home), we went to the mall to see Santa. All I can say is that I proved my love for those two sweet girls of mine. We had to wait over 90 minutes to see him. That’s a long time with a bum ankle/knee (feeling better, not totally), especially with twin 4 year olds and a cold. My hubby wanted to bail, but I told him that it wouldn’t be fair to them. What really bugged me (and everyone waiting in line with me) was that as we got to the front of the line a bunch of people butted in front of us. We found out 90 minutes late that if you pay $3.50 you are in the “fast Santa lane” and you move to the head of the line. WHAT ??? Apparently like everything else, Santa can be bought.
The funnier thing was that Santa was absolutely fascinated with Ro (my hubby). He couldn’t believe he was so tall (6ft. 11). He actually got out of his throne and came over to him asking if he ever played football. I think Ro was embarassed. He said “No, Santa just basketball, but why don’t you go on over and have a seat to talk to the kids”. Santa shook his hand and asked an elf to take his picture with Ro. Sheesh, we should have had him wait 90 minutes OR pay $3.50 to be in the “fast Ro lane”. It was cute though. Don’t think I’m cheap, but I refused to pay the $21 for the 5X7 picture. I just couldn’t make myself do it. Ro took pics on our phone. I did think “Hmmm, am I being cheap?, but then I told myself “nope, that’s too much for a little picture- the pics we took are fine”. I hope I don’t regret it later.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the December winner.
