One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress : I’m exhausted just thinking about everything I did yesterday. I think I have to start getting to bed a little earlier because it’s been a little shocking when the alarm clock goes off lately 🙁 I started the day by going to the $$ store for newspapers. Next, I headed to pay $651 for my min-van ~ ouch, that hurt. I felt a little better when I went to Rite Aid across the street and left with 4 FREE bottles of Pantene and 2 bottles of Rite Guard Body Wash for just $.49 each. When I looked at my reciept I noticed that I had earned $96 towards the $100 I needed to earn my $20 Winter Up+ reward. Luckily, Tic Tacs are a participating product and they were $1 by the counter. I snagged 4 and earned the $20 for that, $4UP+ reward for the Pantene and $2 for the Right Guard ~ Not bad! The girls are going through a “Tic Tac Phase”. They are learning to have some in their purse and not eat them all in one day. I call it “Tic Tac Responsibility”. They get a new bottle every 4 days ONLY if they have some left in their bottle. It’s just a fun little lesson in self control.
Next, I went to the old house to prepare for the open house. I cleaned all of the windows and sliding doors again, wiped things down and mopped the kitchen and dining room floors. During the open house we had only 5 visitors, but one of the couples had come on Saturday as well and are apparently “interested”. We’ll see what happens. We are still waiting to see if another offer comes from the other couple, but honestly we’re pretty far apart so I don’t know… My agent doesn’t think we should go much lower. The last house that sold was for the same amount as our last offer. We’ll see…
After leaving the house I realized that I was missing my phone. I retraced all of my steps and was lucky enough to find it in the bottom of the cart I had used at Rite Aid a few hours earlier. I was SO thankful that it was still there.
I headed to the grocery store next and spent a total of $58 on groceries. Our pantry stockpile is up and running so I just needed lunchmeat, fruit, milk, meat and some other things. I was overcharged by over $16 for some frozen fish that I bought. I waited in line to get it corrected and was given one FREE for the inconvenience + the $16 in cash.
Thank goodness my hubby made dinner. After dinner I took the twins with me to CVS to snag a few deals. I got the Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief ($.99 after ECB), 16 packs of UP2U gum (FREE after coupon) and I did the cash card deal because I had to roll over some ECBs. I got 2 huge packs of Scott TP and 2 six packs of Scott paper towels + 4 bags of combos. I used ECBs to pay and earned a $10 cash card and an $8 ECB ~ not bad.
