One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Well, well, well we woke up to yet another blizzard here yesterday. I think we got 10-12 inches of snow. Of course the girls were off from school yet again. We briefly toyed with the idea of down the block for an inexpensive lunch, but opted to have grilled cheese and soup instead. We got the driveway and sidewalks cleared in the afternoon as the snow stopped falling. We did go to our favorite diner for dinner, BUT we all drank water and Ro and I shared a meal. My sweet little Kayla pulled a pout about drinking water at dinner. This is new for us since the New Year. We (meaning Ro and I) decided that soft drinks added too much to the bill when we go out to eat. We explained it to the girls and have had no problems until last night. Kayla sat there complaining the whole time and refused to eat her dinner. It would have been so easy to give in and get her another drink, but we stuck to our guns and just let her pout. It’s better that she gets over it now before she’s a spoiled teenager demanding appetizers and desserts (ha ha).
The girls mainly drink water at home anyway. They get one juice a day in their lunch and fruit for most snacks. In her cute little defense she hasn’t been feeling great these last few days, so maybe that was the problem. I offered her an apple before dinner, but she refused. She did apologize to Ro for her bad attitude during dinner. We’ll see if it happens again next time.
I got a coupon in the mail for a free bag or can of Silver Floss sauerkraut. I got it by going over here and leaving a compliment. I emailed the compliment last week and already got the coupon. Feel free to click on the link and hopefully you’ll get one too ! I earned 110 Swagbucks yesterday. I also requested a $25 check from one of my survey companies. I paid some bills online. I sent an extra $100 to the mortgage company. Every little bit helps…
I have to go into the city this morning for a consultation for Ro’s upcoming heart procedure. I’m pretty sure it will be scheduled for later this week. He’s nervous, but looking forward to feeling better. He’ll probably be in the hospital for a night or so. Hopefully we won’t have more snow that interferes with getting it done. We’ve had over 40 inches of snow this winter so far. That’s a lot for us 🙂
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. Who will the February winner be ? We’ll see…
