One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: We woke up to a surprise snowstorm yesterday. Surprisingly there wasn’t a school delay. I came back from the bus stop and put the fireplace on. I didn’t sleep well the night before so I snuck in a 20 minute nap. I never do that, but it felt good. I made myself do the elliptical, which was torture. Some days it’s easier than others, but the little bit I’m able to do was so hard yesterday. I am trying to increase my time on it by a minute every day or two, so it’s something I guess.
Yesterday was a NO spend day. Mostly because the weather was terrible and the roads and parking lots were reportedly very slick. Honestly I was afraid to go out and do any deals. We had enough in, so why risk it ? I spent the extra time doing online surveys through my survey companies and Swagbucks. At least I qualified for a few Swagbuck ones. Sometimes it’s hard to qualify for those, but yesterday I got in on 2 of them.
I made all meals at home. Dinner was a comfort food meal. That’s always good on a cold, snowy day. I love Fridays because I don’t have to pack lunches AND I don’t have to help with 2-3 hours of homework. It takes such a chunk out of the day. I like seeing the girls have fun and play. The other night they did homework almost until bedtime and it made me sad. Last night we went over to see my parents for their 48th wedding anniversary. We made them homemade cards and sang them a love song. They loved it. Olivia snuggled with my mom because she was tired after a long school week. I think my mom loved that the best 🙂
After the girls got into bed I did a few surveys and went out to the garage to organize my stockpile. I also planned out meals for the weekend so that we aren’t tempted to eat out. The stockpile is looking pretty good, so there’s plenty of food. I think planning is 1/2 the battle. We got our electric bill, which was WAY high, but honestly we’ve had the Christmas lights on every night and it’s been really cold. It should be a little better this month. It’s still cold, but the Christmas lights are down (boo!).
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. The winner of the WHYD contest for December was Dana. A reader alerted me to the fact that I had neglected to choose a winner for November. I’m so sorry for that ! It was an honest mistake, but I chose one yesterday via Random.org and the winner for November is Jennifer W. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…
