One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had a decent day yesterday. I spent most of the day getting some things done around the house. We have a fridge to sell, so I spent some time getting that cleaned out to get it ready for sale. The girls talked me into Chick fil a for dinner, but they each had a $10 gift card for their food, so it didn’t cost anything.
I made a big mistake over the weekend, so I had to remedy that. On Sunday I woke up and my laptop wasn’t working properly. It wouldn’t connect to the internet, which is why I couldn’t post deals all day. I thought it was a problem with my laptop because we were able to connect with our phones. It was just a problem with my laptop. Here’s the big mistake – I went to Best Buy and bought a MacBook ! By the time I was done and checked out with my fancy laptop, case, extra plug (required) and a fancy case, AppleCare and tax, I was just shy of $2k in debt !!! My little Kayla was ecstatic. I was not. Yes, it was pretty, but it didn’t feel right. I could have gotten a regular laptop for a fraction of that cost and I felt guilty and wasteful. To top it off I called the cable company to troubleshoot my laptop and the customer service representative let me know that there had been a big issue with the provider/cable company and that there wasn’t an issue with my laptop to begin with. The good news is that was able to return everything to Best Buy and I was given a full refund (no reboxing fee or anything). I was really happy and relieved. Kayla was a little sad, but she’ll get over it. I did all of my Bing searches. We had a basketball game, but we lost.
So how about you ? What did you do ?? Let’s make 2020 our year !!!
