Mommy Luvs 2 Save

Use Extreme Couponing To Save You Money and Get Your Family Out of Debt

January 30th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

January 30, 2014 by Karen 23 Comments

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well :)

It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:    My day stunk yesterday.  Sorry, but it did.  It started with Kayla saying she had an upset tummy.  She ended up staying home even though she had 3 tests in school.  Olivia cried about having to go without her sister, but in the end she decided she should go because of the tests.  I came downstairs only to find that our kitchen faucet was broken.  I still don’t know what happened to it, but it looked like someone was really rough with it and broke it.  I ended up having to pay for a new one and a plumber.  I’m sure my dad would have put it in for me, but I didn’t want to be a burden to him.  He has so much on his plate already.  I think the faucet with the labor cost just under $400, which was NOT planned for.  It kind of got me in a bad mood.

I made all meals at home.  The mail was all junk.  I earned 218 Swagbucks.  I did 15 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the treadmill and it was all HARD.  Why isn’t it getting any easier.  I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks now. Shouldn’t it be getting easier?  It’s not even a long amount, but yet it’s so hard for me.  Wow, I’m just a ray of sunshine, aren’t I ?

What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it :) You could make 2014 your year. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…

That’s okay. It doesn’t happen all of the time. Gas alone is a budget buster these days 🙁

Sorry you had such an icky day. May I make a suggestion for when future repairs do arise? Check out You Tube first before calling someone. With my hubby away so much, it has saved us a huge amt of money learning how to fix things myself. Another source is stores like Home Depot, etc. They can usually tell you if the task at hand is something that could be tackled by an average homeowner.
Stayed home waiting for a wood delivery, which didn’t come until quite late. Stacked what my Hubs had cut, and now have 2 more cords to stack. Free exercise! Earned 348 swagbucks, but still didn’t hit my second goal.

You are so right Yvonne. I’ve been doing some of that, but I thought plumbing would be out of my league. I guess you never know what you’re capable of until you try though right ? Congrats on your Swagbucks and your good attitude about stacking wood. I like your glass half full mentality 🙂

Played in the snow all day. I’m not as young as I used to be. Free fun. All meals at home. Didn’t check the mail, with all the snow I forgot. Today will be a no spend day. We got two inches of ice under all this site and we live in the sticks so no going out. The road we live in doesn’t get scrapped or salted so we are staying put.

Stay warm and cozy. Well at least you can play in the snow all day. I don’t think I can last more than 15 minutes out there these days. I’m a wimp 🙂

Breakfast and dinner were at home yesterday. I took my girls out to Fazoli’s for lunch (it cost just over $8 for the 3 of us and we had leftovers). I used the extra money I make from babysitting to pay for that. In the afternoon the girls and I delivered Girl Scout cookies at my husband’s work (we like for them to deliver them so they can thank everyone). In the evening the girls had their Church activities. My husband and I went to Barnes and Nobles for hot chocolate (mini date). I used a gift card, so nothing out of pocket. I earned 142 SB and met my 14 day goal (100 extra SB).

we ran to Costco, out of all the expensive stuff. I did scan my receipt for Ibotta, was hoping to get 25 cents per loaf of udis. but only one. my lil guys teacher told me he was uncooperative in morning, yet fine in afternoon. I told her I dont want to make excuses but we had to change meds. Hope he adjusts he has to take them 2 weeks! my little girls are both coming down with something! one has fever, and just feels miserable. The other (3 month old already!) has cough again! I really wanna blame the weather! I wish our temps would just level off from super cold and windy to warm , our weather guy keeps refering to it as a rollercoaster!
I did a quick add of all the coupons I have used this month, nothing stellar remind you, but none the less a help! I have spent $4.50 on papers this month and gotten at least $50 in coupon savings.

Signed my 13 yr old(adopted son) up for school, he starts Monday. I’ve been homeschooling him since the move(too scared) but now he FINALLY wants to go. Its only 4 months left but I thought he could meet some new kids before summer.
I’m excited to have this time to do surveys, organize my house, work in garden, paint walls, exercise, etc.
No bills in the mail. Made breakfast for dinner. Hubby and I went out for date. He leaves tonight for 12 days of work..we need it.
Only 1 call on the rental so far..we are back to paying 2 mortgages again Feb 1st. Yikes.
