One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: We had a cozy little snow day yesterday. I think we got around 6-8 inches of snow. I’m sure many of you are used to much more, but for us it closes down school. The girls actually slept in. Kayla was up by 8:30, but Olivia slept until 9:30 or so. I got up around 7:30 and jumped in the shower. I ran downstairs to hop on the elliptical while I still had a few minutes to myself. I didn’t last long on the elliptical. As a matter of fact, I’d be embarrassed to say how many minutes, but as they say “The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step”. I’m going to remain faithful to this goal and see what happens. I hid my scale because it messes me up to get weighed. I get frustrated if I don’t lose enough and then if I lose too much I think “Sheesh, I don’t want to waste away I should really eat something”. I’m a mess, but I need to get it together.
On the debt free front I made some phone calls to use up 2 vouchers that were in my daily deal account. I want to use them up before they expire. They were both a great deal and I’m super excited to use them. My dad texted me to tell me that the laptop that he’s been looking at for me was fixed. I was so excited. That saved us from having to get another laptop. We ate all meals at home. I made dinner for breakfast, which is always a hit. I made 4 loaves of homemade banana bread. I froze 2 of them and will take a loaf over to my parent’s house sometime today. I ran to Target with my sidekicks and looked over the Christmas clearance items. I’m surprised at how much is still left. It was all marked 50-70% off. I got 3 bags of the mint M&M’s. They were marked $1.24 each and I had a $2/3 printable coupon, so they were super inexpensive. I also got some Up & Up items with the mobile coupons.
It was a cozy, snowy day with some deal shopping mixed in.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…
We got about 14″ of snow, so it was a no spend day! We hunkered down and had a great day hanging out! Earned some swagbucks, had the budget meeting my husband and I have scheduled for every Friday!
We did not get snow yesterday, but it was cold. On Monday the HIGH for my area will be -10 (-50 to -70 with the windshield). I ran to the grocery store for a few items and spent $20 of the grocery budget for the week. I took my girls for a French fry/soda snack at McDonalds on the way home. It cost me $5 and will come from the eating out budget. I sold a few items on Ebay and will send those out once I am paid for them. I also earned 111 SB and took a couple of surveys. All meals (beside the snack) were made and eaten at home.
Wow, y’all are making me miss the snow days.
We went surfing here..well, not me I stayed home and cleaned the house…I like it sparkly. Then, we all did yard work. I ran to Costco to get more food for my hungry crew.
Walked along the beach for an hour at sunset, for exercise.
Ordered an item on Amazon with swag bucks credit. Read some Dave Ramsey articles.
Just wanted to share..found an awesome deal at Dayspring.com…75% off Christmas items, free ship over $50 and another 20% off total with code HOLLEY20.
Went grocery shopping and only spent $30 for the week. I was so proud of myself. All meals at home. Earned a few swag. Got gas using my Sheetz card and saved .3 off each gallon. I sure hope this right budget gets better because it makes me a little depressed.
Had a rough end to our year…mother in law was in the hospital 7 hrs away and we packed up to go see her. Truck broke while we were there but a friend of the family fixed it for $150. All of my kids have been sick ALL week! Blah! They are taking turns with who feels the worst each day and right now it is the youngest! Guess I’m glad they are all sick at the same time so maybe in the next few days we will be over it and no passing it back and forth. So needless to say I haven’t really been on my game…lol. January is our ‘get back on track’ and so far we are doing ok. Started 2 jars for the money challenges. Doing the $1 challenge for Christmas money and a double money challenge for well…I’m not really sure….maybe a vacation….we’ve never done that! Trying for a no-spend January (other than budget) but the deals this week might break that…bonus is it’s all stock-up so I’ll make an exception. We only got maybe 2 inches of snow and it shut this place down (no spend day other than gas)…granted this time there was quite a bit of ice included but we shut down with just snow too!
working on budget today
Transferred prescription to Kroger as they has a $25 gift card with transfer. Used that to get some groceries especially meat. Picked up my contacts for the next 6 months, insurance covered those and
then went to McDonalds with youngest as I has a free cheeseburger and free cookie coupons to use. In mail got coupon for free pizza and free soda.
Took my oldest out for dinner. Paid cash out of budget. Talked over his academic goals for second semester. Nice. Younger son spent the night with a friend. No other spending.
Today was a no spend day. Listed a few items on craigslist and hoping they sell quick :). Dropped a few bags off at the women’s shelter and still cleaning out closets .
I share you pain with the struggle to lose weight. Your “I’m a mess” comment gave me a chuckle. I often feel exactly the same way.
No spend day yesterday. Our weather was super cold and windy so I never left the house. Earned some swagbucks.
All meals home. Entered diaper codes and kelloggs codes.
