One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had a decent yesterday. I got up and did my little itty bitty time on the elliptical machine. I don’t want to tell you the number of minutes I can do it so far, but let’s just say that I can’t make it through a television show. I’m going to keep doing it in the hopes that someday I can last a whole tv show (at least a 30 minute one). I also started the day with a green smoothie, which I haven’t had in awhile. So, I started out my day great.
I went to the grocery store to snag some deals after I cut some coupons. I did pretty well by saving 56% with my store card and coupons. I came home and made a really good steak, mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. The steak was only $4.05 because it was clearanced. The good thing is that it was already marinated with a delicious rub, so all I had to do was stick it in the oven. All other meals were made at home too. The mail wasn’t that interesting, but we did get a few free magazines in the mail. I also got some grocery items from Amazon that were bought with a credit. In addition to shopping, cleaning, cooking and packing lunches for today, I also gave the girls a bath before bed.
It’s FREEZING here today. We had single digits overnight. We were so blessed to have a warm home to sleep in. I worry about those who aren’t so lucky :(. I hope you guys are all cozy and warm !
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. Who will the January winner be ? We’ll see…
No spend day since I bought groceries yesterday. Made a crock pot roast, scratch mashed potatoes, and salad. Big hit, plus leftovers for two meals. Making soup today, should be no spend.
Snowed in, so no going to work for me. Per news reports, secondary roads wouldn’t even get plowed until today. I have 2+ foot drift in my driveway, and that’s with it already having been plowed once. My driveway is almost 1/4 mile long, so way too much to even think about shoveling. Bitter cold. It was -9 when I got up this AM. On the bright side, no spending! Stay warm and safe, everyone!
Our temps hit -40 with the windshield yesterday, so I did not leave the house. All meals were made and eaten at home (leftovers for lunch and homemade chicken pot pie for dinner). We even made hot chocolate in the evening to help us warm up. My oldest lost a tooth yesterday, so the “tooth fairy” will be making another visit to our house. I earned a very small amount of SB and took a survey.
No spend day here. We are doing good sticking to our money budget and food budget. Trying to lose weight and save money! Earned some swagbucks, cooked all meals at home, printed coupons.
Spent $11 dollars for ingredients for a wonderful baked potato soup, bacon is so expensive these days but it makes the soup taste so yummy. It is 36 here in Florida and I’m freezing! LOL We are doing a no-eating out month and so far so good but it’s only the 7th day.
It is so cold here. We live on the coast and we are surely not used to being this cold. We wear shorts way more than long pants. Bless you all that live where it really cold. It did get to -8 late-night. I handled it well. Did not turn the heater up just put more clothes on. Earned a few swagbucks. All meals at home. But one dime spent yesterday. 3rd day in a row. This budget thing is hard but well worth it. Paid bills yesterday and even paid one off. Stay warm my loves.
Big spend day here. Had to take kids to cvs dr. All others overbooked. So now two kids have flu. $89 each for visit $50 for flu test. And $56 eqch for tamiflu……and I have insurance! My baby still

No other spending yesterday. Poor heater is working overtime here we had 18 overnight. It was 70 two days ago!
Trying hard to get on track this month. Working on our budget, trying to organize and clean, and trying to come up with schedules for all the things I need to accomplish. I don’t know how people have kids and a clean house and their sanity….lol. I just can’t keep up!! Earned my daily goal of Swagbucks and another no spend day with all meals made at home. Hoping all my kiddos are gonna be feeling better soon. The cough just won’t go away!!
I sold some older Creative Memories products, was paid on PayPal & then paid down our PP Bill Me Later Balance which interest rate expires on 1/14/14. In my budget to pay off, but am trying to sell as much CM stuff as possible to pay down more!
Dinner is ham (left over from a dinner the other night) & bean soup (bought beans at Target for $1)
Cleaned the house. Went thru piled up paperwork. Took a survey. Got a b1g1 free smoothie at Jamba Juice with my son. Love the green drinks, Karen..bought a Nutribullet a few months ago and I use it everyday.
Made all meals at home, did a budget for the 15th…Its just making the $ stretch until then.
Ran in Walgreens today and saved 100% just had to pay tax. I brought 4 carmex, 2 progresso soups, 2 almay lip glosses, 1 azo, and a fruit bar. After coupons and RR it was only 78 cent out of pocket which was tax. I love when that happens. I plan on adding the carmex and lip gloss to the box of personal items I am will be donating to the homeless shelter. I try to drop off stuff to them with my couponing ever 2 months of personal items that people might use. All meals are being cooked at home today. Earned a few swagbucks
