One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: The girls slept until 9:30 am, which is really late for them. We took a drive out to a going away party for 2 little boys we know who are getting adopted soon. It was at a family fun zone that had bouncers, an arcade and bowling. We had fun playing different games and cashing in tickets for little prizes. We only stayed a few hours because I needed to go and look at a house with my sister. She is planning to move soon, so we are looking at rentals.
We usually eat out at least one or two meals each weekend. I am proud to say that we ate EVERY meal at home this weekend, which is good for us. We actually talked about going out for every meal yesterday, but ended up finding solutions at home. Homemade meals are so much cheaper and healthier, so I was happy we held out. The Chili’s restaurants around here had free kid’s meals yesterday, so I thought for sure we’d go there for dinner. I ended up serving leftover meatballs and sauce with ravioli.
After dinner we took a drive out so that the girls could see where the Summer camp is that Ro’s work provides for employee’s children. They will go there today. I’m going with them for a few hours so that they feel comfortable. It looks really nice. They have a big pool, a restaurant and even a bowling alley. They go on field trips once a week, do lots of arts and crafts and get to order from the restaurant once a week. Hmmm, sounds fun, I want to go. Hopefully they like it. They aren’t going every day, but maybe a few days per week -we’ll see how they like it.
My birthday is tomorrow. I invited my parents over for dinner. I’m going to make a big meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. I also got a recipe for a homemade ice cream cake that is SO delicious. A friend made it for the party we went to on Saturday night. If I make it well, I’ll post the recipe.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. Who will the June winner be ? We’ll see…
