One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $25 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had to take one of the kids to the doctor’s in the morning, but it was a follow up so they didn’t charge me a co-pay. We ate all meals at home. I made taco salad for dinner. Well, I made soft tacos for the kids with a salad on the side. Ro and I had taco salad. It was fresh and delicious. I also made 2 loaves of banana bread yesterday. I like having something homemade for the girls to have for breakfast. I watched QVC last night. I like the “In the Kitchen with David show”. I was looking at a set of cookware that he had on and I resisted it. I am going to tighten up all of the handles on my cookware. It’s on it’s last legs, but I think I can revive it once more. The cookware would have been $140 shipped, so I feel really good having resisted it. I’m sure I would have had buyers remorse this morning 🙂
I got gas yesterday and got a small discount. We actually had our 17th snowstorm of the season (hopefully the last, but we’ll see). Luckily the kids didn’t have a delay. I got a few high value coupons in the mail. I earned 178 Swagbucks last night. I am trying to get to 10,000 before requesting another reward. I have another few thousand to go to get there. I also did another survey for a different group. I downloaded a few free Kindle books, made some homemade detangler and made some foaming hand wash.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2014 your year. Who will the March winner be ? We’ll see…
I made the mistake (I guess) of telling my hubby about a gift card deal on Rachael Ray cookware at Target right before Christmas…..well, that’s what he got me….lol. But I really do love them! So easy to clean and I guess we really were in need of them as my others were past due for a retirement. But not exactly my idea of Christmas fun! LOL! I earned 186 SBs and got the 1000 pt code for Kellogg’s. I love getting the coupons that double at the grocery store. I have now successfully restocked our cereal supply, cheap! With 3 kids eating it almost everyday and the 4th addicted to Cheerios it helps so much! No spend day here and all meals made at home. Will most likely need to run out for salad supplies today so that I keep up my diet.
Oh, I’d love to have Rachael Ray cookware. I watch her show with my mom on Thursdays and I was looking at her cookware thinking WOW ! That’s the gift that keeps on giving. I know it’s practical, but it will last you a long time and make life easier 🙂
I’m trying not to stock up on too many things right now but its so hard to pass up some of the deals. The more I buy the more we have to move though so I’m restraining mostly. We have 2 more full days in this house then we are going to settlement Mon. We will still have this house and access to it if we don’t get everything moved right away. We did grab a few things at target last night and got some ideas for the next house. I’m watching a friends lo today and tomorrow also so that has been helping me put $ aside for supplies to paint the new house and maybe buy a few things that I’ve been eyeing. I’m looking forward to being able to get back on track for getting rid of debt since that got put on hold while we were saving up for the house.
Congrats ~ How exciting. I know it’s a crazy time. I hope everything goes smoothly:)
Yesterday was a no-spend day. I only left the house to take the kiddo to and from school, which was great! I stayed home and finished some projects that had been considered and started. Finished 3 Mickey/Minnie head shirts for our Disney trip–so much cheaper to make them and I’m getting good at it. Going through more things to get rid of every day and working on clearing the walls for the paint job coming its way in a week. Got chosen to host the Veggie Tales party, so gearing up for that. Woohoo! Also received 5 more flooring samples–so lost on what I want to do. We have to replace the flooring in the living room and hallway, but I am so unsure of where to get flooring from. We’re doing laminate since we will either be selling or renting the house, but it’s still a hard pick. Any insight on that, ladies? 🙂
I would just do something reasonable and neutral. We have a Carpet Mart that has good prices. I’d look for a great deal. I think laminate is pretty reasonable, right ?
I wish we had put more insulation or something in our kids rooms. Its very loud and echoey. Dropped toys, etc. We put extra at high traffic areas. It made big difference.
Oops I should say I mean under the flooring!
The kids had the day off school, so we took them to the beach and surfing. I usually relax at he ocean, but there were jellyfish signs ..so I was on the lookout the whole time.
I do love that feeling of freedom the sea especially when you swim in it..I want to parlay that into the rest of my life. Hubby and I discussed how we can pay off the house in the future.
Brought snacks. Made beans and rice for dinner. Earned swag Free mags in the mail.
I’d love to pay off our house too. Maybe someday for both of us 🙂
Another day of vacation and this one was no spend!!!
Wow, a no spend day on vacation that’s dedication 🙂
My little one broke my printer–I’m guessing it was him judging from the very small inky finger prints all over it, so I bought another one for $59. It was unplanned and unbudgeted, but I was able to take my $30 eating out budget and apply it to the printer. I guess we will eat in this weekend, but it helps me feel a little better.
Awww, I’ve been there :(. At least you have a plan for it. I know I couldn’t live without my printer either.
All meals home. $62 in coupons at grocer.
Lots of laundry. Still adding to my goodwill pile. Cut, sorted coupons.
