One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress : I had a nice, productive little day. I packed up my coffee and lunch as usual to start the day. I was able to recycle a little and found 70points worth of codes for My Coke Rewards and 8 ink cartridges. I will turn the cartridges in to Office Max for a credit at the store at a later date. A friend saved me some coupon inserts and I couldn’t believe it, but there were 3 $8/2 Cover Girl Products coupons in the batch of coupons. I doublechecked with her to make sure that she didn’t want them, but she didn’t.
I did a quickie trip to Rite Aid. I bought 2 Conair Hairbrushes for a total of $10 (minus $2 in coupons and got back $7 in Up+ rewards for them). I also got 2 Cover Girl eye shadows (they were BOGO 50% off and I used one of my $8/2 coupons), 2 bags of chips, a bag of the Organix cough drops and a bounce dryer bar (used a free coupon). I had an UP+ reward that I wanted to use up. I ended up paying $.15 and getting $8.50 in new Up+ rewards to use for next time-not bad. I think I have enough Cover Girl cosmetics to last for quite awhile since I don’t wear too much makeup.
After work I stopped by one of my wonderful local reader’s house because she generously saved some boxes for me for moving (Thanks, Joene-it was nice to meet you ! ). Next, I headed to McDonalds to get the girls a little something for dinner. I got a 10 pack of chicken nuggets and a large french fry for them to share. They both had the Monopoly pieces on them and we ended up winning a medium fry and a 30pt MyCokeRewards code.
A family friend stopped by with a nice little treat for the twins. She gave us 2 Living Social vouchers for FREE glam sessions at Sweet n Sassy (a local girly girl salon). They include an updo, mini manicure and mini make up session complete with a walk down the runway. The vouchers expire on 10/25 so I’m thinking we will do that sometime this weekend 🙂
Whew, I’d say that was a pretty good day !
