One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress ~ I did a mini-freezer cooking session yesterday. I just doubled up a few recipes so that we have 2 extra meals in the freezer for a day when I don’t feel like cooking. I need to do more of this. I may start choosing one day a week to cook extra meals for an hour or two.
You may or may not know that about me, but I LOVE watching football on Sunday. I root for our hometown and usually make it a fun “football party” atmosphere for the kids. We had fun watching the first game of the season yesterday and bonus- we won- yay.
In the afternoon, I hit the drugstores in search of great deals! I only hit Walgreens and CVS. I’ve been a bit disappointed in Rite Aid in the last few months. There are a few things I want to grab there this week, but it will have to wait a day or so. At CVS I scanned my ECB card and got the coupon for the FREE Ritz Crackerfuls or Newton’s Fruit Crisps (got the Fruit Crisps). I also got a great deal on General Mills cereal with coupons (they are $2 each and you can reduce your cost further with Qs). I also got the $.24 Softsoap body wash and a few other things. At Walgreens I got the FREE Skittles that I posted about and a few tubes of really cheap toothpaste and a few other freebies. It was a pretty good trip, but I plan to go at least once more this week.
We went to visit family last night. We had a nice time together (as always). We have fun talking about deals and I always try to update my sister in law (now my sister) about all of the freebies that she can snag for the week. I sometimes even bring her a bag or two of freebies from shopping trips from the previous week.
So what did you do ?? Leave a comment
