One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.
I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had another no spend day yesterday. I made/packed all meals. I actually like packing my lunch better than getting take out. It’s so much healthier and frugal. It was a busy day. It was my dad’s birthday. I made dinner at home, but we went to my parent’s house to sing to my dad at 7:30. I made my dad’s cards for FREE on Cardstore.com. I earned his birthday gift cards for FREE from Discover Rewards.
I got another FREE card in the mail from Cardstore. I also got the 3 Hello Kitty headbands in the mail from Ebay. I used the FREE $5 Ebay code from Recycle Bank that I posted about last week. It included FREE shipping, so they were totally free. I earned 18 Swagbucks and did 2 surveys after the girlies went to bed.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. You could make 2012 your year !

No spend day for us. We also came up with a plan of how we were going to pay bills for the rest of the month.

I have the monthly budget worked out - down to the last dollar! Paying credit card in full!
Must be that time of the month….for budgeting that is. lol I worked on ours extensively yesterday. Usually I budget monthly, but decided to try budgeting all of our expenses on a weekly budget. Now if only our paychecks cooperate!

Immediatly deleted all but 4 of my daily couponing emails so I won’t be tempted to get any deals this week!! need to do a very-minimal-no-spend-month! Trying to save up for our vacation in a few weeks. Will be using up what we have already on-hand. Thanks for the daily motivation!!
I know what you mean. Sometimes I can blow the budget on the great deals! We seem to be on track for staying on budget for this pay period. Yeah! Now I just need to stay out of all stores until Friday!
Yesterday I ran into home depot because somewhere I read they had trash bags for a really good price. Well they did not have the ones I saw online but I did get 106 glad kitchen bags on clearance for $5.00 a box and I had coupons 🙂 so it was not a wasted trip. All meals were cooked at home and I made four quarts of salsa since we have a very very large amount of tomaotes. At this rate we will be eating salsa every weekend during football season.

A no spend day here. Grocery shopping today because I get an extra 5% off since my husband is 55. It pays for the sales tax- every little bit counts, right?

I ordered some things off of Amazon, but I had a gift card, so the total out of pocket for me was 1.18. Not too bad! I didn’t get to any stores yesterday, so that was a good thing.

Received my crocs from the 2 for $20 deal a week or two back - yippee! It was a no spend day around here but I need to hit up walmart for a few random things I need tonight.

I got an email that our community garage sale is on the 25th so I began pulling things out for that. Hoping to clear quite a bit out and to sell as much as I can. The rest will be picked up by Goodwill. Great way to get rid of clutter and hopefully make a little money.

I have been reading your blog for a few months now and I just have to say how inspiring! It’s amazing to me how you stay the course. We committed at the beginning of this year to get debt free and reading your blog sure helps. I was curious about what you sell on Ebay. I thought I read at one point that you only post on certain days. I was wondering why this was. A post of Ebay selling would be awesome!

I was just getting caught up on some emails and noticed some of the school supplies deals you had posted and remembering that you had posted something last fall about Operation Christmas Child. Now would be a good time to tell your readers about OCC so that they can get stocked up on supplies to send in shoe boxes. That is what I’ve done in the past for some older child boxes.
Have a great day!
Thanks Dawn. I will get a post ready about it 🙂
We paid off a home improvement loan that had been around for ages. The balance was down to $1300, so I took a leap of faith and paid it off in full. It will be nice never to see that bill again.
Wow Yvonne ! Congrats. I know that felt GOOD ! Your mailbox will be emptier next month 🙂
