Mommy Luvs 2 Save

Use Extreme Couponing To Save You Money and Get Your Family Out of Debt

July 29th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

July 29, 2023 by Karen 12 Comments

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment.  My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !

It can be very difficult to pay down debt.  There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.

I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day.  One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month.  To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  I could have been more frugal today, but it wasn’t too bad.  Ro had to take in his truck to get a little work done.  I actually cost $224 total, so it could have been much worse and we paid with Discover and then I came home and made a payment to Discover.  That way I’ll earn cash back on it.

I got a coupon from MyCokeRewards for a FREE spicy McBites from McDonalds.  I ordered it a few weeks ago and actually had enough points to earn another one on Friday.  Ro had to get his picture taken for his license yesterday, so we decided to take the kids out to lunch somewhere different.  I ordered a 10 inch pizza and was able to share it with both girls.  That actually saved $$ and saved some on my waistline.  Lunch came to $19.50 + tip, so that wasn’t bad.

I took $20 used it to take the girls to Chuck E. Cheese last night.  We spent 2 hours there and had a blast.  I played about 15 games of air hockey with Kayla.  We had SO much fun.  I told her she was “going’ down” and she thought it was so funny.  Both girls really enjoyed our time together.  We had much more than $20 worth of fun.  They won 121 tickets and thought they were rich.  They told me they’d get me any prize I wanted with it.  Little did they know that 121 tickets buys you like 4 smarties candies - ha ha.

What did you do ?  I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the July winner. You could make 2012 your year !

No spend day yesterday for us. We helped my sister move so that was good. I plan to pay some bills today and plan out the menu for the month! I hope to also do some more freezer cooking. Today is my middle child’s birthday. WE will spend some money for the birthday party but I am hoping that the food and balloons, pop, etc. will only cost about $50. Wish me luck staying in my budget!

I have not spent any money this weekend. Went to the mall and walked around came home and worked in the yard. All meals were prepared at home.

Yesterday hubby rented a backhoe ($175-OUCH) in order to accomplish several things around our property that our tractor can’t handle. We dug the trench for the electrical lines from our house to our horse barn. Doing this part ourselves will save on what we are paying our contractor to update the electrical. After a very long day outside, we ordered pizza. Not very frugal, but it had been a very tiring day.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but even if I had wanted to spend money today I could not have—I found five HUGE zukes hidden in the garden, for a total weight of 23 pounds. Then I found, by the side of the house, that the rhubarb I had been ignoring had huge stalks. I picked them all and it ended up being over 40 pounds of the stuff. After grating the zukes for latkes this winter, and filler to add to stew, chili and meatloaf, the freezer was too full for the rhubarb. So, I canned about half as rhubarb sauce (like apple sauce) and dehydrated the rest. I know it does not sound like a lot of work, processing food, but I was exhausted by the end. My husband rustled up dinner from the freezer while I sat there like a beached whale. Really, I know I will be very happy this winter to have this food stored up, it just came in greater amounts and at an unplanned time than I wished. And we still have more of both items that will come ripe before the August frosts. I only wish hamburger and chicken breasts grew in my garden!!

Been a busy little bee, running around town getting deals. Got a huge crate of peaches for $10. I have so much fruit in the freezer. Plus hubby made plum brandy from our plum trees. I like the idea of shredding zucchini for winter, thanks for the idea, Lindsey.
Im officially done with school shopping, they have all their supplies, backpacks, lunch boxes, new shoes etc. It took a lot of bouncing around to different shops, I made a game out of getting the rock bottom price on each item, I did even better than last yr!
Ialso went garage sailing with some friends, spent a total of $12 for so much stuff, including 175 security envelopes, an italian leather purse, a new first aid kit, a glow in the dark football and some books, and addidas shorts.
Paid $400 to cc. Paid off braces!!

It was a no spend day here. I had to remind my hubby that there was plenty of stuff in the freezer that he could put in the microwave for lunch at work instead of going out. This after he handed me his stack of receipts for lunch this past week. His response was “O I forget”. Nope dont buy that one. So guess I am going to have to drain the bank account and tell him we are broke and hide the money lol. Geez!

I earned 14 swagbucks and getting ready to do my surveys. I need to check my sites for cashing out on some of them. I know I have some that are ready. We are gearing up for the yardsale this coming weekend and then the move at the end of August.

I am hoping Jennifer is doing ok. Nothing from her in over a week. I am hoping she has had the baby and all is well. Has anyone heard from her. Everyone have a great start to the week.

We drove to the beach today and stopped for lunch along the way which was fun. I made all our dinners at home and froze them, so we had a yummy homemade dinner by just turning on the oven:)

I wanted to share a special I ran across with everyone. I love, love children’s books. Kohl’s has one of my favorites as their Kohl’s cares promotions. Skippy Jon Jones. It is a hilarious series

We made all our meals at home which of course saves a ton of money and always taste so much better! We made some big purchases in order to finish a bathroom on our investment property. We were able to find a really nice vanity on clearance plus I had a 10% off card that saved us $49.99 on our overall purchase. I earned 65 swagbucks and was able to cash out for 2 more $5 Amazon gift cards. I am saving my gift cards to use towards Christmas shopping. Any money leftover in our Christmas budget goes into our land fund so that is really motivating for me.
